Grow Your Fund is a daily post that gives you a chance to win prizes by checking in on all the various challenges you are participating in. You can choose to participate in one, two or even all of the challenges giving you even more opportunities to Grow Your Fund!
The Challenges
No Dining Out: The concept is simple, lower your family’s dining out bill and add the money you save to your fund.
Minniemizing for the Mouse: Get in shape for your trip to Disney by walking at least 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week. The average person walks 8 or more miles a day at Disney World. Your feet will thank you!
Not going to Disney? Don’t worry. You can participate too. Just commit to working out at least 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week!
Budget Challenge: Can your family stay on budget this month for groceries, entertainment, dining, etc? Do you think you could even challenge yourself not to spend a dime 5 days this month? Be sure to report on your spending vs your budget every day. The goal is to be able to add the extra money saved at the end of the month to your fund!
*If you haven’t set a budget yet, you might want to check out this post.
Decluttering Challenge: Is your stuff starting to overtake your house? Do you feel like your kids room is full of too much junk and not enough fun? If so, I challenge you to find a new home for just 25 items a day for the next 30 days. This could be 25 articles of clothing, 25 books you no longer read, 25 toys your kids ignore. Have a box for items to donations, a box for items to sell and throw the rest away! At the end of the challenge, have a yard sale and add the earnings to your fund!
The prizes
At the end of each month, I will pick FOUR winners who will each receive $25 to add to their fund. Look for the winners to be announced on the 3rd of each month.
How to enter
Leave a comment with the title of the challenges it is for. You can participate in one, two, three or even all four challenges. There will be one winner per challenge, and winners can win multiple times! It’s all done by using Random.org, so if your number comes up and you are eligible, you win! In order to be eligible to win, you must actively participate in the challenge for at least FIVE calendar days.
Click below for even more details on each challenge…
No Dining
- Take a look at your current dining out budget. How much did you spend last month going out to eat? That is money that could have gone into your fund instead! Try cutting your out to eat costs this month and adding the difference to your fund.
- Set a weekly dining out budget, if you resist going out to eat, add that amount to your fund instead.
- If you were seriously about to go out to eat (like had your coat on and was going out the door or pulled into the drive thru and then pulled back out), add the amount you would have spent to your fund.
- Going out to eat and using a coupon or paying with a gift card? You could add that amount to your fund too. For example… if you had a $25 gift card to Cracker Barrel and you used it, you could take $25 cash out of your budget and add it to the fund. Or if you used a $10 coupon, you could take $10 cash out of the budget and add it to the fund.
- You must challenge yourself. Try to spend less than you spend now. If you don’t go out to eat at all, challenge yourself to try new meals this month. As long as you are challenging yourself when it comes to your family’s eating habits, you can participate!
- You are allowed 1 freebie meal that you don’t have to count or report back to us about. Please report on everything else though so we can encourage and support one another!
- Free meals do not count against you. This is a challenge to spend less money going out to eat than you usually spend. If someone else is paying for the meal or you have a coupon to make it free, great!
- At the end of the month, you will need to comment on the very last post to be entered to win. I will choose the winner from that post and verify that you have commented on at least 5 days worth of posts. The comments must of occurred on 5 DIFFERENT days. Meaning if on the 30th, you commented on that post and then went back and commented on 4 days worth of posts, you would be disqualified. You must comment on 5 different posts on 5 different days.
Minniemizing for the Mouse
- I need to get fit for the mouse. My feet hurt so bad from all that walking and for once I’d love to experience Disney without being in pain. We are going in November, so I am hoping to make a big lifestyle change between now and then. I can’t do it alone and so I need the help from all of you!
- Check in each day and report on your progress. The goal is to exercise for at least 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week. For those of us going to Disney, walking for those 20 minutes is a great way to not only get in shape, but prepare our feet.
- It really doesn’t matter what you do as long as you are moving!
Budget Challenge
- Everyone needs a budget. Budgets will help you to be in control of your money without your money being in control of you. You dictate where your money goes and how it is spent.
- Don’t have a budget? I’ve written a few articles that should help you set one… How to Set a Budget and How to Set a Grocery Budget. You’ll find even more helpful advice under Getting Started Couponing and Your Fund.
- Each day, check in and let us know how much you spent the day before and if you stayed under budget or not. We aren’t here to critique your budget (unless you ask!), but we are here to support you in staying on track!
- Also feel free to include bargain brags. Did you find a great deal or do something creative to save money, be sure to share it with all of us!
Decluttering Challenge
- It doesn’t take long for the stuff to start taking over your home. The kids rooms start overflowing with broken, neglected and just plain weird no idea where they came from toys. Your stockpile starts to spread from the kitchen, to the hall, to your bathtub. You start finding that the home for more and more items is the middle of your living room floor. Etc!
- It can be overwhelming to take on the task of decluttering your home, but the end rewards are so worth the effort. To make the process easy, I challenge you to find just 25 items every day to find a new home for. Get a box labeled donations, one labeled to sell, and one for trash. Go through 25 items a day and either put it in one of the 3 boxes or find a new permanent place for it.
- At the end of 30 days, you will have an organized home and you can have a yard sale to add more money to your fund!
- Be sure to post every day that you have gone through your 25 items and found a new home for them. Don’t just put them back where they don’t belong.
Good luck!
No Dining Out
We made chickpea curry tonight.
Minniemizing
Made it to week 5 of Insanity and still going strong.
No dining- Did go out yesterday for Father’s Day for lunch at KFC. I think they are too expensive so we usually don’t go there, but did find a couple of coupons and my husband loves his chicken so that’s where we went. Spent around $15. For dinner we just had popcorn and fruit salad because we were all still pretty full from lunch.
Minniemize- Well the KFC wasn’t probably the best for me,but only had a cup of popcorn and fruit salad for dinner and a bowl of cereal for breakfast so think that made up for it some.
Decluttering – haven’t done too much lately since I’ve been sick, but I’ve been trying to pick up/ get rid of a few things every night.
Dining Out – No dining out. Even though I was driving home from Ohio to Maryland and thought about getting a snack of some kind, I thought of the budget and the “minniemize” and thought against it. I really didn’t need it.
Minniemize – No working out. Father’s Day and drive home took up the whole day.
Budget – I’m doing great. Spent no money yesterday or for the whole weekend except for gas. Woo!
Declutter – Cleaned up the packing from coming home. It’s a new week with more stuff to purge.
Minimize: Continuing with 12,000+ steps – yay!!
Declutter: Started taking boxes to my mom’s for the garage sale coming up soon, and forgot to get more empty boxes for the loos things piling up…I’ll do that Wednesday. Sorted out some mroe junk…where did it all come from??
No dining out: Still successful!!! Yummy shripm dinner at home with all things from my freezer/pantry!
Budget – haven’t done any shopping yet this wee. With all the father’s day festivities yesterday and moving gram to a nursing home there hasn’t been time. Perhaps I’ll start tonight.
(budget continued) – but the perk is I’ve spent nothing thus far :-)
No Dining Out – Trying a new recipe for dinner tonight!
Budget – denied my husband permission to buy himself lunch on his way home today. Budget still looking good!
DeClutter – Finally tackled the mountain of wash in front of the washing machine. I can see the floor again! Also revealed the floor in my craft room which doubles as my daughter’s hang out spot, and tidied my bedroom.
Eat at home for breakfast lunch and dinner. Gave Dad the day off from cooking by eating tomato soup and grilled cheese.
Budget is getting better due to Dh’s overtime. Plus, we cut back on light usage last month. Also, using my niece to babysit and save money for one more week. ( all money goes to the fund!!
Decluttering the house is an obstacle. Toy room today for 20 min. Toys are trashed or put in yard sale pile.
Minnemize – 25 min walk and ate a salad for lunch.
DINING – No dining out yesterday! We went to a lunch cookout at a friends and stayed for cookout “leftovers” for dinner.
BUDGET – No money spent yesterday! We’ve even went a full week and still have a half a tank in the car! Saving all around!
DECLUTTER – Nothing yesterday:(
No dining out today. I’ve given myself a weekly allowance of 25.00 to eat lunch and dinner while at work. I drive bank shuttles, so there’s no where to warm up a meal or grab a cold water from unless I stop and get something. Whatever is left over I’ll be adding to our vacation fund. Today I’m taking left overs from yesterdays BBQ – yay!
Minimize Me – Today my body is achy all over from yesterdays running around. Playing with the kids, wandering around visiting everyone, playing horseshoes, frisbee and that walk from the picnic spot back to the car at least 8 times. Even the kids were tired, they passed out at 9pm and didn’t get up until 10am this morning!
Declutter – With summer upon us, and our church yard sale coming soon I tackled books. We homeschool, so we have TONS of books. Today I was able to weed out 25 picture books and 10 chapter books. Whoo HOO!
keeping my thoughts here has been keeping me honest (love it)
minniemize – didnt work out all weekend – but did this morning
budget – did really well with coupons and deals
didnt eat out at all all weekend – still using up all the spices and fun things have bought over the years which is requiring lots of new recipes
decluttering – didnt clean anything out this weekend, but am going to tackle one drawer today
Well, Didnt do so great this past week. I had surgery on both my arms last Monday and have been unable to move much. Which leaves DH in charge of all things houshold for a week YIKES!
No Dining Out
We actually did ok here all things considered. Mcds for dinner 1 night, and burritos out 1 night and burgers out 1 night. Yesterday the kids were hungry at Wal Mart so we got lunch at Mcds too. Not too bad for 7 days.
Minniemizing.
Yeah, I was bedridden most of the week and didnt give a care what I ate. Mostly I slept so I didnt eat a lot.
Declutter
Nothing there.
Budget
That went out the window too as DH was in charge of grocery shopping this week. $180!!!! We did splurge and I bought $30 steaks for Fathers Day though. Hes been carrying all the weight this week so he deserved it. :)
No Dining Out – Made Pepperoni Basil Perfection for dinner last night at DH’s request. It even left me with the indgredients in the house so my 12 year old can make something he wants out of his cookbook. I love getting the whole family on board the money-saving train!
Minniemize – Still getting my exercise by doing chores. Watcing what I eat carefully and not having desserts and the scale is still going down, hooray! I really want to make sure I get this baby weight off before we have another one.
Budget – Not doing as well as I would like, but since I’m at the top end of my household items budget I’m using it as an excuse to take some time off of studying the ads and shopping. Just need to use my store rewards before they expire. Going to use the free time to organize my new coupon binder :)

ended up eating out by myself last night—–had dropped the kids of @ rehersal ofr VBS musical & went coupon shopping–finished early so stopped & got myself dinner @ Wendys—used birthday money to pay for it so it didn’t come out of my grocery budget
No Dining Out: Fathers Day weekend hubby did not want to go out. First time ever that has happened. He must be listening to me talk about your blog as we have 3 months till our Disney Vacation
Minniemizing for the Mouse: Wogged (walk/jog) at lunch – 45 minutes. I am gearing up for a Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon this Fall
Budget Challenge: Co-worker gave me a coupon for free Chick-fil-a sandwich. Used it today. Lunch was free.
Decluttering Challenge: Family member who lives with us won a free minute shopping spree at a local grocery store. You could only fill up one small grocery bag. So he bee-lined for the over the counter medicine and filled up his bag with $300.00 in over the counter medicines. Therefore we cleared and decluttered our bathroom medicine cabinets and closets
Wogged! I like it! :)
Minniemize- Still walking the kids to the park
Budget- Didn´t spend a dime at all during the weekend, eventhough we went to the mall, we just took a stroll and left empty handed, feels weird, but we didnt need anything. Just adjusting to a simple way of life, no extas.
Dining Out:
Dined out for Father’s Day, but it was in the budget, so I’m good with it.
Budgeting:
Budgeted $125 for groceries at WalMart, Target, and Pick’n’Save this weekend in hopes of stocking up since DD is due THIS WEEK!!! (Get out of my belly–you hurt!) Spent $63 at Pick’n’Save and SAVED $107! This included 12 boxes of cereal, 2 blocks of cheese, 2 free gallons of milk, frozen foods, and fruits and veggies! 98 items total for $0.64/item. PLUS, I get $10 in gas cards back from Kellogg’s for the Cars 2 promotion on the cereal boxes. At Target, spent $19 and saved $18 on beauty/household/food. Spent $28 at WalMart on food and household. Saved $12.50 in coupons, no idea how much I saved by shopping the sale items on top of the coupons, but good enough for me! Best deal I found there? Softscrub kitchen cleaner on clearance for $2, with the $1.50/1 that came out last week I only paid $0.50! Woot woot! Left with $15, so we budgeted it for the Father’s Day meal mentioned above (and still have $2 left over!)
Then I hit up the DisneyStore.com clearance today because DH has been wanting a cool water bottle to have on his desk at work rather than a cup of water that can get stale and dusty through the day, and since the aluminum bottles are on sale for $5.99 there right now and we both love ALL things Disney, I picked up one for him and one for me, then fell in love with the Swarovski Mickey Glove necklace, but refrained from buying it and just got the 2 water bottles for us. So I put $24.50 in the fund for abstaining on the necklace. :) I can get it when we go at Christmas time if I still want it!
So far this month: $112 in the Disney fund, $80 in rainy day fund, $80 in DH’s new computer fund. Sweet. :)
Congrats on the Budgeting— that really was saving. Add that to not eating out and you will really did save this weekend :-)
Budget – Besides a few new work shirts and gasoline, I didnt spend a dime this weekend! Nadda on food! I used a full punch card for a free burrito from Panchero’s. (Which I split into 3 meals!)
Declutter – This weekend was not a good one for this goal. I went shopping for new work clothes (very needed). So actually I added things :(
Minniemize -I’m up to 4 miles now!
Wow! You’re doing great!
Minnimize Me – 60 minutes on the elliptical again.
No Dining Out – Did not do well. Our fridge went out – so had to eat out a few meals.
Budget – No doing well here either. Had to throw out TONS of stuff from the fridge. Plus the eating out. Repair man coming tomorrow – that won’t help the budget either.
Decluttering – Does throwing away over 25 items from the fridge count?!
Minniemizing – No excercise this weekend.
Budget
stayed within budget for our trip
No Dining
dined out for lunch but used a coupon at Friendly’s and Dad got a free sundae!
Minniemize
only excercise was walking a little …will get back on it today!
No Dining Out — None for us. My hubby made my favorite — eggplant parm!
Budget — Didn’t spend at all!
Minniemizing — Rollerbladed 47 minutes while pushing a stroller filled with weights (15 pounds)!
Decluttering — Not a great day for decluttering — chose to go to the pool with my hubby!
Your minniemizing sounds fun! :)
Minniemizing – Walked 3.5 miles this morning! “swam” in the pool this afternoon.
Budget – Didn’t spend anything today.
Dining out – used my free shake coupon at Arbys.
walking is excellent exercise :-)
free shake coupon…wish I had one as it sound yummy :-)
No dining out: Nothing this weekend
Decluttering: I cleaned up and reorganized quite a bit for son’s birthday party on Saturday but didn’t really get rid of anything.
Budget: Went a little over for hubby’s father’s day stuff but he’d had a rough week and I wanted to spoil him a little.
Minnimizing:
I am doing WW and am doing rather well right now. I’ve lost 18.4 lbs and go to weigh in again tomorrow night (fingers crossed) :) I even resisted popcorn at the movies last night! I went to WDW in December of last year with my husband and little one and was so ashamed of the pictures when they got finished! I knew I had to do something and so i’ve started. Thanks for the encouragement!
Budget:
Starting today, I am going to budget my family’s spending to $25 per person per week (excluding gas, unfortunately). I think this is do-able and will work on lowering it even more next month. My 3 & 1 year old dig in my wallet each night looking for change to put in our Disney bank and I want to save as much as possible so we can go back! I can’t wait to take my 1 year old. Hopefully next year!
I am doing WW too- keep up the great work Brittney
You’re doing great!
No dining out:
We did good this week even with it being Father’s Day weekend. We did go out to dinner, but used some money from our “entertainment” account so it was covered.
Budget challege:
So far I have stayed on track as far as my grocery budget and eating out budget go. Yay!!! I also used swagbucks to “purchase” a Starbucks gift card for my husband for Father’s Day and took advantage of the free 8×10 photo collage at Walgreens last week as well.
Decluttering:
I decluttered most of downstairs this past week. I must say I finally got around to i because my in laws were coming into town. :)
decluttering : what the motivation was….it worked :-)
No Dining Out-Did really bad this weekend. Went out of town Fri and Sat and ate out lunch both days and dinner on Fri. Although we went pretty cheap. Hubby paid so it didnt affect the grocery budget.
Minniemize-Walked a lot this weekend. Starting a new group at my church tmrw night. Need that accountability.
Budget-Still doing well with this, even with Father’s Day gifts.
declutter: no decluttering today. just the usual housework.
Minniemizing; parked farther away from class today. Walking does the body good.
Budget: So far so good, still under budget.
No Dining out: big test in class today, don’t really feel like eating anyway… Fix dinner when I get home.
minimize – 3.5 miles in record time!
declutter – my car & the fridge – 25 items thrown away!
No Dining Out: We ate out on Saturday after a long day of boating, however we went to Little Ceasar’s Pizza for $10…
Budget: Doing well on the budget after a long month of no paycheck (self-employed). The job will be finished and payday is the end of the week!
Minniemize: Worked out 3 times last week and planning on 3-4 this week. I was going to take a walk this morning, but it is raining :(
Decluttering: Working on the kids toys and books this week. My daughter is off at camp this week and I am planning on pulling out all her furniture and cleaning under everything and getting rid of toys that aren’t played with anymore.
No dining out: No meals out of the house. Spent $2.25 at concessions between popcorn for the kids to share while we waited out some more delays, $1 to refill my league cup with iced tea, and $.25 for 2 lollipops for the kids while we waited. We had another big t ball rain delay (5 1/2 hours), and they told us our game would be at 5 (and they come early to practice), but it ended up not starting until 6, so we had a lot of waiting around to do with a 4 1/2 year old and a 2 year old…
Minnie-mize: Didn’t get quite the workout I got on Saturday, but I try not to stress the workouts on the weekend, especially since it rained about half the day.
De-cluttering: with yet more waiting around from rain, I got more clean up done, this time in the kids’ rooms and the master. Set aside a bunch of things for resale and goodwill.
No dining out for us.
Minniemizing: Walking to the park and back with dog and husband!
Decluttering: Planing for a yard sale again this weekend. I got rained out last week.
NDO:
Mom and I ate lunch at McD’s yesterday. She had a gift card so no OOP!
Minniemizing:
Um, ate McD’s! I did to more cleaning, lifting, carrying furniture, etc. My arms are so sore!
Budget:
I went grocery shopping and spent $48 out of my $50. I put $2 in the savings envelope!
Decluttering:
Just threw away 2 more bags of trash. We had a garage sale again this weekend and got rid of even more! I went through another area of the basement and loaded up two more boxes to sell! I am downsizing so I have to get rid of 50% of my STUFF!
No Dining Out – I did great this week. I went out to eat twice. One time I didn’t pay for it and the other time, my DH and I needed a quick bite. So I used a BOGO coupon at Jack in the Box and spent under $5. Qudoba had a BOGO yesterday. Since this is one of my favorite places, I dragged my husband in their and got two of the same burritos so I could have them for lunch this week. Only $7 for the two burritos.
Minnimize – We have been going through a huge heat wave, so it has been hard to go outside and walk. But I make sure I get up from my desk at work every hour and walk around the building a few times. Plus I am still in boot camp – and getting better at it.
Decluttering – Getting rid of 200 items twicw a wwk has been working great for me. I found six dollars in a coat pocket when I cleaned out my coat closet – added to the fund of course. I went through one of my sons rooms on Saturday and doubled the amount. Gearing up for our garage sale this weekend!
Budgeting – This has been working better. I have had so many birthdays and special occasions the past two months, that my bidget is even tighter and it is extremely difficult to stay under budget. The not-eating out last week is the only thing that saved the budget!
You’re doing great on decluttering!
Decluttering – slow weekend as we had company, however, I was able to send a huge bag of clothes home with one of our guests.I will be working on kitchen cabinets today.
No Dining Out: I was lazy :( We went out to McDonalds for lunch.
Budget: Spent less than $2 OOP for my awesome CVS deals (that was mostly tax), so I count it as a win.
Decluttering: Sold yet another video game on Amazon.com. The Goodwill donation box is getting larger too!
Minnimize: Kept up with eating healthy but didn’t exercise AT ALL. :( I feel guilty about that now, so I’ll have to pump it up today!
Don’t feel guilty about not exercising. Taking a day off once in a while is actually good for you.
Dining out
Did not eat out Sunday in fact packed a picnic to eat out with my boys and nieces. so fun :)
Budget:
Counted and returned bottles to put a few dollars into our Disney fund
DeClutter:
Onto the next closet and one cubbard it is my goal for June to do one of each each day, so far so good My goodness you find a lot when you pull everything out and put it back one by one. Sure can throw out quite a bit :)
Minimize
Had a great time dancing with my boys and girls yesterday worked up a crazy sweat.
Hi Kelly – I really like the picnic idea. I am going to try it next weekend with my son – thanks :-)
DeClutter
My husband attacked his side of the closet, does that count, I usually do it a few times a year for neatness for him, but he dug in and declutter big time. One bag for the garbage can, one for good will. Yippee
Budget
Took out my grocrey money, trying to do the enevelope thing with it, 3rd week of trying it, I was amazed at how litle I spent at our local organic type market on veggies when I was only focused on what we needed. $1.19, LOL 3 ears of corn, 2 tomatoes and 3 peaches
Spent all day Sat. weeding our garden and yesterday tearing down and moving our above ground pool…legs and back are killing me today, so I guess that counts as a workout.
dining out— went out 2 times over weekend- was not in our budget(boo)
decluttering- starting with my list today
Sounds like it was a great workout!
no dining out for us yesterday…hubby was thrilled with the roast that my 5 year old made him for father’s day.
decluttering…my garage is clean :)
budget…had a no spend day yesterday
minniemizing…only managed one trip around the block yesterday. will shoot for two today.
Decluttering: Did alright with this one yesterday and am starting to feel a bit more in control. Still a long way to go. I’m going to stick with my goal of 10 items everyday this week…exciting to think that’s 70 items by the end of the week!!
No Dining Out: Took husband out for a father’s day lunch. It was good, and I think he enjoyed it. With tip, we spent $30.
June Total Spent: $30.00
No Dining Out: We didn’t dine out this week! Usually we go out to eat on Friday nights as our “date night” but this week we cooked together and enjoyed our evening at home.
Minniemizing for the Mouse: I started to re-read “Made to Crave” the free ebook by Lysa Turkhurst. I’m so motivated that I said “NO” to doughnuts when they were offered to me!
Budget Challenge: Banked $30 in our fund this week. It’s not a lot, but every bit counts.
Decluttering Challenge: I got rid of some scrapbooking stuff I’d never used and gave it to a friend who loves to scrapbook. I love giving something useful to someone who will use it.
No dining out: We had grilled tuna, a salad & a Magnum bar for dinner. Mmm…those are delicious.
Minniemize me: Since it was Father’s Day, I helped hubby work outside in the HOT sun for hours yesterday. I actually sweated off 1 lb. Maybe I should do that more often.
