Dinosaur Gertie’s Ice Cream of Extinction in Hollywood Studios is located on the side of Echo Lake. This tall dinosaur is a tribute to Gertie the Trained Dinosaur who appeared in 1914 and was one of the first animated characters to ever be created (she was created by
Winsor McCay who was a pioneer in animation).
The architecture of this snack stand is known as “California Crazy” architecture that is commonly used to catch the attention of potential customers. What child wouldn’t want to visit a huge dinosaur to get ice cream?
Dinosaur Gertie’s Ice Cream of Extinction is only opened during the hotter parts of the day. Check the menu sign or your Times Guide to see what time it is operating on the day of your visit.
As you walk around Echo Lake, be sure to look for the giant footprints in both the concrete and the grass. These footprints are caused when Gertie comes to life and takes a stroll around the park! My kids always love trying to see who can spot the footprints first!
