We stayed at the Animal Kingdom Resort a few years ago. We ate breakfast at the Boma everyday and dinned there twice for dinner. The decor was done in lovely earth tones and African art/marketplace decor. The restaurant was huge & spacious with nice sturdy tables and chairs. I know you are thinking sturdy tables and chairs…come on lady, really….but it really makes a difference when someone bumps your table or you need some room to complete some last minute work before heading off to the parks. The cast members and staff were awesome. The food was delicious and plentiful. I don’t have one negative thing to say about the restaurant as it really was a great experience.
Boma is our favorite place to eat at Disney, We make it a point to eat there every visit. Everyone in our family loves it, even the picky ones. We stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge on our last visit and couldn’t wait to eat at Boma. It was the first place we ate.
Oh Boma! This is, hands down, one of my all time favorite restaraunts. I’ve eaten here twice and love everything about it. I took my boyfriend on our last trip and he loved it so much that he’s requested that we do it twice on our next trip so that we can get the most out of it (and possibly a third time for breakfast, too. I’ve only eaten dinner here for dinner, but we stayed at the resort last year and I have to tell you that the scent of their breakfast is out of this world.
After my first trip I’m pretty sure I said that all of my salads for the rest of my life should be served with their Mango vinegriette (it’s that good). The soups that I’ve tried (and I’ve tried at least a taste of most of them because I couldn’t decide) are all delicious. I especially love the coconut curry seafood soup and the ginger and carrot soup. The FuFu (mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes with spices) is great. The Bobotie is delicious. I’ve found all the meats that I’ve tried to be flavorful and well cooked. And the deserts are delectable.
Plus, if you’re not staying at the resort, a trip to this restaraunt for dinner is a great excuse to check out the theming and the animals. And their gift shop, which I find to be one of my favorite shops on property.
This is my famiy’s favorite restaurants at Disney, hands down. We have only eaten the dinner, however, that was enough to keep up coming back. We eat here every time we come to disney and that’s about once a year. It’s very pricy, but if you use the disney dining plan, then you have made a great choice in this restaurant. The food is amazing and there is lots to choose from. Even the kids will have a wide variety of food to choose from. The desserts are out of this world and in my opinion rank right up there with the best at Disney. If you have never eaten here, I strongly recommend it. You will not be disappointed.
Boma is a Disney experiance that everyone should try at least once. The food is great, the atmosphere is outstanding and the service is top notch. We ate there for dinner one night. When you arrive, you are seated and the waiter/ress informes you of the items and where they are located. We were on the Dinning plan, so this was a great deal for us.
There is a ‘meat station’ that has a person slicing specialty meats and you and many other meats there as well. The night we were there, there was a great steak that was being sliced and it had wonderful seasonings and it was very tender! I LOVED the FuFu so much, I found a similar recipe to actually make at home (not as good, but close!) The food stations are kept well stocked and CLEAN!!! There are great soups there and some really good side items that you cannot get anywhere else at Disney. The desserts there were quite good, although I didn’t appreciate the texture of the inside of the zebra domes. I’d heard for YEARS how great they are, then I was dissapointed. It was a mix between chocolate covered jello/pudding texture. It TASTED good, but it was a texture thing for me.
My only complaint was one that Boma couldn’t control at all, a child threw up on the floor about 3 feet from the dessert stand. It was quite gross, but the cleaned it up very quickly!
If you’re not interested in meeting characters at breakfast please, please, please try Boma out. One of the best buffet breakfast selections on property and the theme is just wonderful. Tucked away in the animal kingdom lodge this is a breakfast you’ll want to savor and never forget. They have everything from a ham and corned beef carving station to an assortment of yogurts. (meaning everything my husband wanted to everything I wanted)
Boma. Is. Amazing.
Buffet food at Disney can go one of two ways- either it is typical buffet fair (such as at Crystal Palace) or it is wonderful (such as at Biergarten). The food is WONDERFUL at Boma. My husband and I ate soooo much. I just took a little bit of everything. It was interesting, tasty, exciting and new. My husband is a picky eater and even he ate a lot!
The atmosphere is wonderful, too. We had a dinner reservation. Our toddler had fallen asleep in his stroller (and we were NOT waking him up) and the wait staff kindly let us take the stroller in the restaurant (not really a stroller-friendly restaurant either) so that he could sleep while we ate. It was great!
LOVE Boma. One of my family’s favorite restaurants in WDW. Personally in my top 3.
Pros: Great buffet variety, uniqueness and quality. Food is outstanding. Service is always good and quick. Theme and atmosphere is beautiful and authentic. Soups are amazing, most notably Butternut Squash, Carrot Ginger and Coconut Curry Chicken. Great choices for side dishes including 3 types of hummus, babotie and cous-cous. Several types of salmon dishes are rotated throughout and also prime rib. Desserts here are incredible including Zebra Domes, banana bread with vanilla sauce and fruit & custard tarts. Rather adventurous menu, but there are also safe items for kids and non-adventurous eaters.
Cons: Closed for lunch. On the expensive side. Would be easier to get to if it were INSIDE of Animal Kingdom (Tusker House has filled that niche well, though).
Overall Boma is phenomenal and I would recommend it to anyone.
This is my absolute favorite Disney restaurant. Food is great, cast members are unbelievable–there is something for everyone at this restaurant. Plus, you can check out the animals at the Animal Kingdom Lodge while you’re there. Oh, and the lodge has one of the best gift shops on property, in my opinion. So, great food, great shopping, fun stuff to see…sounds like a good time to me! :)
Great atmosphere at the resort, and a wonderful restaurant! My kids absolutely LOVED eating here in June and can’t wait to go back again. Lots of very unique flavors to enjoy, along with an amazing table of desserts! :)
This place is SUPER YUM! And it’s nice to walk around the hotel and look at the animals after you eat.
Curry Seafood Soup… Zebra Domes… Oh My! Some of the best food ever! There is enough simple food to please our picky eaters and at the same time our more adventurous love the variety and unusual flavors. Highly recommend! I’ve not been there for breakfast but dinner was stunning! A huge variety of delicious food that is strangly familiar but wonderfully new at the same time. While this is a large area it is a relaxed atmosphere. It’s very easy to over eat here!
Boma is hands down my favorite restaurant for breakfast. The buffet is amazing and has a variety of foods – everything from your breakfast standards to awesome African dishes. The press pot coffee is wonderful and the juice blend they serve is delicious. Make sure to make a priority seating – this restaurant often fills up completely.
we dined at boma on our last trip and will be returning this trip as well. my husband loves buffets and it was favorite meal of the entire trip. it has something for everyone – even the kids were happy. the desserts were sooooo good. if not for the restaurant, i probably would never have visited animal kingdom lodge, which would have been a shame! we really enjoyed looking around the resort after our dinner.
Boma is phenomanal…both for breakfast and dinner (it’s not open for lunch, which is one of the few dings against the restaurant). First of all, the food is just plain delicious. It has a wide variety of unique food items and the quality of the menu items is top notch. Mediterranean and Africian inspired, the choices are many and wonderful.
The breakfast is one of the best on property based on the spices and flavors employed throughout – a lot of cinnamon, raisins and other flavors add a uniqueness to the restaurant which gives it its charm. The special juice they serve for breakfast is to die for as well.
As good as breakfast is, it can’t touch dinner. The soups are OUT OF THIS WORLD. The Carrot Ginger, Seafood Coconut Curry Stew and Butternut Squash are at the top of the list. Delicious hummus varieties also line the buffet tables. Some of the salads are incredible too, including a watermelon, papaya and avacado concoction that is amazing. Cous-cous and other side dishes with that African slant are wonderful. There are several steak dishes being carved as well as salmon. There are also some safer options for the kids (or even if you’re not a kid).
The dessert is also what Boma is known for, and for most especially the Zebra Domes. They are incredible. Some of the fruit tarts are great, as is the banana pudding with vanilla sauce. They always change the dessert menu (except for the staples above), so it’s hard to say what exactly will be there.
Boma is also beautiful. It’s a great place to sit and absorb the atmosphere. Its theme is very well done and tremendous thought we put into its design. Service has always been top notch and it’s been a rare day that anything disappoints.
As I said, the fact that it’s not open for lunch is a ding in its armor. Also, it can be quite a hassle getting your food at the buffet area is it’s crowded – it’s not well spread out and lines of people sometimes elbow for room. But these are minor issues that don’t pop up often.
We’ve eaten at Boma for several important occassions including birthdays they we were treated very well then too. It’s a great, great restaurant and I’d recommend it to anyone.
Boma’s is my absolute favorite place to go for a breakfast buffet! I love the mix of American food along with traditional Africa samplings! I bring people here every time i visit! They all agree it is fabulous!
like everyone else is saying, it was so delicious. we ate there our first night at the akl(on accident because we didn’t understand the whole meal plan thing, we only paid for the quick service plan) but i still have dreams about some fruit salad they served. it was delicious and the best mistake we made at wdw.
We love Boma, it is a must do! Though note, most food at Boma has a wonderful African spin, but luckly we don’t have picky eaters. With wonderful atmosphere, music, and amazing foods. This is also on of the few placed on the DW properties to get wonderful (french press) coffee. The desserts at this buffet are some of the best and the Coffee Zebra desserts are a family favorite. Though there are no characters, the beauty of the AK Lodge and wonderful buffet makes this a must do for our family.
Boma is AMAZING! My boyfriend & I ate there this May & it was 1 of our absolute favorite places to eat. Great food & a great atmosphere as well!
We have eaten at Boma twice. The first time we had dinner. I must say, this was a FANTASTIC dinner! It is on our list every time we return from now on!!! I can’t say enough about this service. The ambiance is super. The waitstaff is so nice! We were there on my sons birthday and they treated him like royalty! He even had a chef tell him if he wanted something and didn’t see it on the bar, come find him and he would make it for him!!!! Made my sons whole trip!!!
We also ate breakfast there on another trip. While it was a great breakfast, it was a little more traditional and my children would rather have the character interaction. It is a great breakfast, don’t get me wrong! We will do it again!!!
Boma is hands down one of my most favorite restaurants. I love the selection and the flavors.
The soups are phenomenal. I love the carrot ginger. I have a picture of my boyfriend looking sadly at his last bite of the coconut seafood curry soup. There is a fantastic mango vinaigrette dressing for salads. There are so many good and unique flavors here. And the deserts! Love them.
Boma is amazing!!! The buffet is hands down the best one Disney offers. The selection is huge and you would be hard pressed to not be able to find a selection of foods to enjoy! I live for the Fufu and hummus!!
We LOVE BOMA!!! we have eaten there many times. I think it is well worth it! Drink comes with your meal. The ribs, prime rib, salmon is great! My favorite is the Carrott Ginger and Butternut Squash Soup, they are amazing!! Also the roasted red pepper hummus is good. They do have lots of variety and a good kids section with chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, ect for the picky eaters. And make sure you save room for dessert, the zebra domes are so GOOD!
Hey! I saw that you wanted people to comment if they have ever eaten at Bomas. We go with a big party of between 12 and 15 ppl every year and make sure to go to bomas about twice. We usually start and end our trip there!
Its an AMAZING restaurant for the one meal plan. Certain days they have the prime rib out. I can’t remember what days of the week it is. But their buffet is amazing. I dream about their curry pasta salad all year long.
Its a great place to bring kids, because there is a section of kid friendly food as well.
This is a must go place with at WDW!!
I had my dad’s 56th bday dinner @ Boma and it was awesome!!! The service, like at all Disney Resorts, was phenominal…and they were incredibly accomodating seeing as I was in a wheelchair after having surgery on my achilles tendon.
They even made a cake for dad…I recommend it. It’s pricey but the ambiance is definately something you’ll want to experience. I <3 Disney.
THEIR BREAKFAST IS OUT OF THIS WORLD GOOD.THE PUNCH THEY HAVE IS FABULOUS!!!WE EAT HERE EVERYTIME WE COME TO DISNEY.THEY REALLY MADE MY HUSBAND AND DAUGHTER FEEL REALLY SPECIAL WHEN WE WERE THERE FOR THEIR BIRTHDAYS LAST JUNE.
