The Canada Pavilion has new totem poles for guests to discover! The artist behind these creations is David Boxley.
The Totem poles each have a story. The Eagle Totem Pole to the left tells a tale of a boy and an eagle. The boy finds a trapped eagle on a beach and helps him free. Years later, the boys tribe falls on hard times and struggles for food, the boy returns to the beach and the eagle is waiting with food repaying him for his kindness years ago. The beaver family at the bottom represent respect. The Whale Totem Pole tells a story of the first potlatch between the creatures of the undersea world and Nagunaks.
The set up was sudden, literally overnight and a dedication ceremony was held the first morning of their debut. The stories behind the Totem Poles add a nice cultural touch and the majestic height will be the perfect photo opportunity.
