Getting characters autographs is one of the trip highlights for my younger kids. It a big part of the theme parks and something some kids don’t want to miss out on. So, you will need to get an autograph book for each child. I am going to share with you some of your options when it comes to autograph books.
You can go with the official Disney autograph book, these can be found at the theme parks, or online at the Disney Store. There are different versions of the autograph books and they will run you between $7 – $11. $7.00 doesn’t seem like alot, but when you have 3 kids that want to get autographs that can add up quickly.
Cheaper and more inexpensive alternatives to the official autograph books can be found any Walmart or Target that is located near the Theme Parks. The above small autograph book ran $1.99.
For an even cheaper and more personalized version, you can actually make your own autograph books. I have made my kids autograph books both years we went. Unfortunately, I forgot to pack them last year, which is why we ended up with the 1.99 Walmart version. Making your own autograph book is relatively easy, and inexpensive.
If you are interested in learning how to make your own autograph book, you can find the instructions here.

Here are 2 other really good options we like. The first year we went we got 2 Disney t-shirts, one was a patriotic Mickey for $5 (we went over 4th of July) and we got a package of fabric markers and had the characters sign the shirts (we filled up both). One thing to this .. you have to take the shirt with you they can not sign it while the child is wearing it. This way the child can wear the shirt for years or frame the shirts or get the shirts made into a quilt and keep forever. This year we are getting a photobook made with the pictures of the signings from last trip. There are several websites that run offers on free photobooks (just pay shipping).

I made an Autograph book for my self before we left but left it in the car when we went inside the park. So I ended up buying one inside the park and was surprised that I spent less than 10$ on it and a big pen. I am using the unused book for a scrapbook now.

I take a picture of my daughter while she is getting it signed then get the pictures developed and past the picture in the autograph book next to the signature.

Heather,
I can totally relate to having a larger family, I actually have 5 kids, but only 3 of them were interested in the autograph books. The costs for a Disney trip really add up, so its necessary to cut costs wherever we can.

i SO appreciate recognition of the costs of a larger family! you are exactly right — $7 for an autograph book doesn’t seem like much, but we have 4 kids — that’s $28! we found little books similar to your $1.99 version for about $3 apiece, and the total of $12 is MUCH more doable for us.

My son has a Disney World coloring book that I just happen to find for 50 cents , uncolored, at a local thrift store. It looked brand new! He loves coloring in it and it has a page dedicated to just about EVERY character. As he was coloring in it today, it dawned on me how fun that it would be to have him finish coloring the whole thing and then take it with us on our trip and have all the characters sign on their pages. Plus the characters can see what a great job he did coloring them!
I think it will be a really fun book to have and look back through when he is older :)

I would’ve never even have thought of doing autograph books when we took our kids there last yr had it not been for my veterinarian (of all people) who suggested it as a “must do.” She advised us to get the ones with a photo sleeve in each page so we can put the corresponding photo in with the autograph. It was an amazing idea and we did just that. I couldn’t be happier. What she didn’t tell me though, was that the autograph books you get at Disney aren’t very big in that they don’t have very many pages. We maybe got about a dozen autographs before we ran out of space in the book. So really, you are better off buying books off site, or making your own photo/autograph books to ensure you have enough room for all the characters you’ll get to meet.

I never had an autograph book when I went to Disney as a kids but I’ll be making one for our DD whenever we get a chance to take her there!
I did have a friend that just stapled photo safe paper together as an autograph book and then when she got home she took all the pages out and used them to scrapbook all the pictures with her kids and that character. It turned out adorable!
