This is an awesome review by my friend Suzanne…
Have you ever wanted to ride a Segway? How about wanted the World Showcase all to yourself? You can do both of these things at Epcot on the Around The World Segway Tour.
As of Sept 2012, this tour has been extended from 2 to 3 hours, and now includes a breakfast.
This tour runs a couple of times daily, in the morning, often starting before Epcot officially opens. When you arrive at Epcot tell the cast member you are there for a Segway tour, and they will let you in. Upon arrival, check in at Guest Relations, where you will wait for your guide to pick you up. The group proceeds to the Innoventions building where you are shown a short film on the Segway (basic mechanics and safety rules). The guide then gives a demo on how to mount and dismount the Segway.
Once you are fitted with a bike helmet it is your turn to test out the Segway. First you practice getting on and off. While it seems intimidating at first, you will be a pro at it in no time, really, trust me!!!. More practice of forward and backwards, turning, and stopping, then you are ready to cruise. There is a small obstacle course with cones and ramps that you must navigate through until the group is proficient.
After about 30 minutes of this, you are led out of Innoventions, and head to the World Showcase on the Segways, to the left towards Mexico. You will be accompanied by your trainer and the Disney Tour Guide. Because the World Showcase is closed until 11AM, once you pass Norway ( where it is crowded with Princess breakfast guests) it is clear open sailing around the Showcase. You guide will stop at China, Germany, USA, Japan Morocco, Italy and France where you will weave in and out of the buildings and gardens, and hear interesting tidbits about each one. You may even discover some Hidden Mickeys you never knew about! This portion involves staying with the group and following the guide in single file.
At one point you will be given ‘free range’ access, where you can cruise around on your own and not have to follow your guide.
Once you have finished in France, you will be taken back to Innoventions to return the Segways and helmets. For the rest of the day, you will wish you still had that Segway to zoom around Epcot collecting Fastpasses!
There can be as many as 10 guests in a tour, however, we were lucky enough to be the only 2 on the tour and had a private World Showcase Tour and our trainer took my camera and took about 300 pictures of us on the tour – what a magical Disney moment! We loved every bit of this tour, and think it is great that they have now added breakfast ( and did not increase the price!).
There is small pouch on each Segway handle to hold your camera or a small purse/bag, but it is not big enough for a backpack. You can leave your personal items in a cubby locked in the room where you saw the safety movie.
This adventure is $99 per person, 16 years and older, and there is a 20% discount for Disney Visa Cardholders and Diamond AAA members. Epcot park ticket is also required. You must pay upon booking and there is a 100% refund if cancelled at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled tour.
