Did you know that there is a framed picture of Mr. Toad handing over his deed in Owl’s house in the ride, Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh?
That is the reason I love Disney World so much! My family and I go every year, and we still have fun finding Hidden Mickey’s and other extra special touches the imagineers collaborate. Here are our tips for a fun day in the Magic Kingdom.
We have learned that Monday is a bad day to go to Magic Kingdom. Everyone comes in on Saturday, and rests on Sunday, and then is in a big hurry to get to the Magic Kingdom on Monday.
When you arrive at the Magic Kingdom from non-Disney resorts you will have to ride either the Ferry Boat or the Monorail to get to the gate. We always choose the monorail…because how often do you get to say, ” Please stand clear of the doors, Por Favor Mantenganse ALejado De Las Puertas!” Yes, that is the extent of my spanish, I learned it courtesy of the monorail back when I was in high school, and now they have shirts printed with it!
When you enter the Disney gates, ( I suggest getting there at opening) pop in Guest Relations, and ask for a “first visit” or ‘birthday” or “anniversary” button, and you will receive one free! Great FREE souvenir for first time with the kids.
Pirates is huge for us! We were BIG Pirate fans before Pirates was big! NEVER did we have to wait in line before the movies came out. The year the movie came out, we went to hop on that ride and cool down a minute, ….but the wait was an hour long! Our jaws hit the ground. We knew right then that our secret cool down ride was no longer a secret! However, if you are looking for a spot to cool down, try Pirates if the line is decent, Small World usually has a 10 minute wait, and is a great ride, ( in air conditioning and you are seated) the Tomorrowland Tranit Authority, or catch a showing of the Country Bear Jamboree! Where else will you see mounted Moose, and Buffalo heads that talk?
We always pack a snack bag. Usually just an insulated tote bag, or a backpack. I pack peanut butter sandwiches, and snacks, juice boxes, and bottles water…..it is not against the rules to bring a cooler, just NO glass bottles. This saves us big rather than eating Disney’s Snacks and drinks. A bottle of water costs $3.00, I can get an entire case for that price!
I always bring my own food and paper products with us for the entire trip. I usually take 2 laundry baskets full of paper plates, cups, and packaged foods….instead of buying it at a grocery store in Florida where prices are higher, and I do not have my coupons with me. I pack up full of food for the condo, so that I mostly buy some produce and milk while there.
The main rule for Disney World is to have fun! Afterall, it is SuperCaliFragilisticExpialidocious…….
(Of course, you can say it backwards which is suoicoDilaipxEcitsiligarFilaCrepuS…but that’s going a bit too far, don’t you think?)

Not only will you learn cool spanish, but you can actually become a monorail pilot! Ask to sit up front with the driver, and 4 guests can enjoy the train ride in the sky up front like the pilot!

And yes, I mean Buzz lightyear’s Space Ranger ride at the Kingdon…just my 3 kids call it the Toy Story Ride…not to be confused with the Toy Story Mania at Holly Wood Studios ( or MGM as we still call it! ) lol!
She’s right about Peter Pan – Make sure to get a Fastpass!!! I was at Magic Kingdom on Superbowl Sunday, during record winter temperatures and it was still a 60 min wait for Peter Pan, but only a 20 min wait for Space Mountain.
Thanks so much! We are in the Coast Guard and were going to stay at the Shades of Green but found some Condos in Kissimme for much cheaper and more room! Glad to hear someone else has done what we are going to do. Its our family’s first trip with one 4 yr old and a 10 month old. We are really excited! The more tips the better : )
Gina, you beat me to it–no, they are not letting anyone ride up front with the drivers on the monorail at this time.
Also, there is no Toy Story ride in the Magic Kingdom. Perhaps she means Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin? Toy Story Midway Mania is in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and you definitely want to get a FP for it.
Just a note on sitting up front with the driver – after the accidents they had last year Disney has suspended this practice. They would not do it for us when we went in April, and I have not heard that they have reinstated it. It’s too bad, because it was really fun!
