Frontier Land is a large area of the park, but it’s restaurants are close together. They have 1 that is a full service restaurant that I will talk about later. There are also 3 self service type places where you can eat. Each place is unique in this area and there is a large variety of places to eat.
Restaurant: The Golden Horseshoe
Location: Across from Mark Twain’s Riverboat on the corner
Meals offered: (menu)
Chicken, Fish, Mozzarella Strips, Chili, and ice cream
Adult meals are $8.49 – $9.49
Sides – $4.39 – $9.29
Dessert – $4.59 – $5.99
Drinks cost between $2.79 and $6.49
Kids meals are $5.99
Kids meal is Chicken nuggets and has the choice of Low-fat Milk, Low-fat Chocolate Milk, Juice, or Small Bottled Water.
My experiences: This place has great atmosphere! It is a little crowded with the seating, but it has shows some days that you can watch while you eat. The food is pretty good, but the ice cream is great! If you are looking for a sweet snack then this is a great place to eat!
Restaurant: River Belle Terrace
Location: Across from Indiana Jones and the Tarzan tree
Meals offered: (menu)
Entree Salads and carved to Order Sandwiches
Adult meals are $11.99 – $12.99
Drinks cost between $1.79 and $4.29
Kids meals are $5.99 – $6.99
Kids meal are turkey sandwich, roast sandwich, or Peanut Butter and Jelly. Includes choice of small low fat milk, orange juice, or a small bottled water.
My experiences: I have never eaten here, but as I walked through the sandwiches looked pretty big and everything else looked really good. Seating is inside or outside.
Restaurant: Stage Door Cafe
Location: Between The Golden Horseshoe and the River Belle Terrace
Meals offered: (menu)
Chicken, Fish, and Mozzarella Strips
Adult meals are $5.69 – $9.49
Drinks cost between $2.79 and $6.49
Kids meals are $5.99
Kids meal is Chicken Nuggets. Includes choice of small low fat milk, orange juice, or a small bottled water.
My experiences: I have never eaten here. Eating is all outside. You walk up and order your food. This food is similar to what is inside the Golden Horseshoe so the food should be pretty good.
Restaurant: Rancho Del Zocalo
Location: Across from the Golden Horseshoe, and between Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and the Shooting Range
Meals offered: (menu)
Mexican favorites and Costena grill specialties, soft drinks and desserts
Adult meals are $9.49 – $13.49
Soups – $5.29
Salads – $10.99 – $11.99
Drinks cost between $1.79 and $6.49
Kids meals are $6.49
Kids meal is a Bean and Cheese Burrito or Chicken Taco. Includes rice, fruit cup, and your choice of low-fat milk, low-fat chocolate milk, juice, or a small bottled water.
My experiences: This place is pretty good. I had their Tostada chicken salad. It was REALLY good. I did wish for less shell, but the salad itself was great. The other food looked good too. I will be going back to try their soft tacos because they looked really good!
This Disneyland training article was written by my friend Melissa. Melissa is a Wife and Mother of 3 (ages 5, 3, and 1). Her family lives 10 minutes from Disneyland and visit the magical park at least 1 a week! She also blogs over at Living A Frugal Life about how to have a frugal life while still having a rich family life. She loves DIY projects, cooking from scratch, saving money and spending time with her little family!

We have eaten at all 3 restaurants (Golden Horseshoe & Stage Door Cafe share the same kitchen). I love the fish & fries at the Horseshoe and my husband loves the Chili in the bread bowl. Great portions and very filling, but I agree with Kathleen about the shows. We will have a late lunch to get out of the heat. The Stage Door also serves huge corn dogs which is our adult daughters favorite food at Disneyland. When we are in the mood for Mexican food we love Rancho Del Zocalo. When there are many of us all wanting something different to eat Frontierland is the best place to eat.
Big Thunder BBQ was delicious but more pricy. We ate there on our 30th anniversary in 2010.
We love to eat at Rancho Del Zocalo! The food is great, and what makes it even better is that the portions are huge. We save money by eating there because my husband and I are able to split a plate and still feel full without being overly stuffed. I read on a blog (maybe this one?) that the lime tortilla chips are delicious. We tried them last time and we agree!
Rancho Del Zocalo IS really good! It’s been a must-eat place for us the last 2 trips. Their burritos are yummy! And, their toddler meal (rice and beans with applesauce) is a great lunch for small eaters!
Big Thunder Ranch BBQ is also in Frontierland. The food is fantastic and since it is all you can eat, family style, it is great place to stop when you are really hungry. My daughter can eat her body weight here :-).
River Belle Terrace also serves breakfast so if you dash in early to hit Indian Jones or rides in Frontierland it is the perfect place to stop when you have the early rides out of the way and are ready for some Mickey pancakes. The salads at lunch are absolutely delish and my daughter asks to stop just to share a salad with me.
And if you stop at the Golden Horseshoe try to plan a mid day stop when you can catch a Billy Hill and the Hillbillies show. It is hilarious and a great way to give your kids a cool break from the heat while still being completely entertained. For a special treat see if there is sitting upstairs in Walt Disney’s private box (it’s open seating now) and feel yourself sitting where he sat, enjoying things much as he did.
