Critter Country is a small area tucked back in the corner of the park. Most people only go back there for 1 reason, to ride Splash Mountain. But little do most people that there are 2 other rides, 2 restaurants and 2 shops back there too! There is also a character meet up. So there is a lot to do in this little area for all ages.
I would encourage you if it is a busy day to get a fast pass for Splash Mountain before you go on either of the other rides in this area of the park. Splash Mountain is a very popular ride especially on warmer days.
So here is all the info about the 3 rides in Critter Country:
Splash Mountain
- Minimum height requirement of 40″ (102 cm)
- This is a water ride where you sit in a log. You sit front to back with everyone in your log. There is a max of 5-6 people per log depending on the size of those riding. You can fit more in if they are children.
- This is a pretty lazy ride. It winds in and out of a “forest” as you see the different Characters from the movie Song of the South.
- The reason there is a height requirement is because of the drop towards the end. This is a pretty big drop and you do get wet on it in some degree.
- My 5 year old loves this ride so it is safe for young kids who can handle the drop at the end.
- There are fast passes for this ride. The place where you get fast passes is across from the Hungry Bear Restaurant and around the corner after you cross the bridge.
- This is handicap accessible but you do have to transfer out of your wheelchair
Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes
- This ride is only said to be open in the summer months and the weekends. I honestly have never seen it open so I have never been on it.
- You sit in a canoe and use an ore to paddle around the lake.
- You do have a guide while your paddling, but it does look like you have to be able to paddle for a while.
- This is handicap accessible but you do have to transfer out of your wheelchair
The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh
- This is a classic Disney ride. you sit in honey pots and go through an adventure with Pooh.
- It includes all the characters of Winnie the Pooh and you go on some great adventures from the show.
- This is a great ride for all ages.
- Infants are required to sit on laps in this ride
- This is handicap accessible. You can either transfer out of wheelchairs or they have a wheelchair car for those who can not transfer.

Also, for us old-timers who miss the Country Bear Jamboree, while riding Winnie The Pooh look behind you and up after the Heffalumps and Woozles and you will still see Max, Buff and Melvin. It makes me smile every time.
I agree the canoes are a lot of fun….but be prepared to get a little wet on those as well due to splashing from bad paddlers. Our family loves it because it really is an active ride….do it after lunch to burn some of those calories. Also while not technically a ride, this is also the area where you will catch the raft to Tom Sawyers Island. Another family favorite because of the activity level…if you have boys you especially should not skip the island.
I have been on the canoes. Its a fun different thing to do. The guide is funny and keeps it moving. You get to see parts of the park that are hard to see other wise.
