As you know, Epcot is undergoing some changes and many improvements throughout the park. Now we know that Epcot has a name change to its park. You may recall that Epcot was referred to as EPCOT Center when it first opened in 1982.
Now, Epcot will be referred to as EPCOT (in all caps). This is a nod back to the original name.
What do you think of this change?
As you can see from the entrance sign, it has been Epcot with lowercase letters for a long time. SavEar William shared this history of the name changes with us:
It was originally EPCOT Center, for a short time period, named after Walt Disney’s EPCOT.
The park changed from EPCOT Center to Epcot ‘94, then Epcot ‘95 and has been Epcot ever since 1996. It has NEVER been just EPCOT, only Walt’s original project has had that name
SavEar Cheryll shared this picture of when Mickey’s magic wand had cast the word Epcot (notice the lower case letters again) on the ball. Did you visit when this was up?
