Do you remember the episode of Extreme Couponing with Missy Eby? She is the one who said that her inserts come from God (which they do, He just sends them to her through her congregation, local food banks, friends and family and strangers around the state). Well Missy and her friend Tammy are currently in route to Birmingham, AL with their van packed full of things she got for FREE to take to my church to help the tornado victims!
Missy Eby is truly an amazing person. Not only is she an Extreme Couponer, but she uses her talents for Feeding God’s People. She teaches 3-5 FREE coupon classes a week (she is adamant about not charging) and supports 2 food banks, an orphanage and her extended family with all the items she gets for cheap/free with coupons.
Missy is a long time reader of Couponing to Disney and she swears I changed her life. I am excited to hear the story firsthand when she gets here this afternoon. I’ll keep you all posted on her progress!

I can only hope to be 1/4 of the couponer Missy is!!! She is awesome for her giving. And I believe the more willing you are to give the more likely you are to get back, and to me the hugs and spark of hope in someone’s eye is all worth giving it all!!
Natasia says
that is alot of formula!!!! that is going to so helpful to families with babies. hopefully they have a way to refrigerate it.
MissyEby says
It is ready to feed, so each of the quarts should only last a day :) they can put it in a cooler! :)
Debra says
Kristin….Looking forward to hearing about your visit! You have such a beautiful family and such a giving and kind heart!! Thanks for sharing with us all!!

Go Missy! She is an inspiration to all of us couponers!
Sarah says
As another non-religious person who reads this blog, I would like to chime in and say that the church talk on the blog doesn’t bother me at all. Kristin doesn’t post anything attempting to proselytize or preach nor does she exclude those with different beliefs from participating fully. She talks about God and church because this is a big part of her life…nothing wrong with that.
Melissa says
Very well put Sarah.
amanda says
Yes, no matter what you believe, we need to show love & help others!! : )
Monique says
It is something when you can say you had a hand in helping someone in a crisis. Missy you ROCK!
MissyEby says
Monique, I can tell you that this trip to Alabama changed me as a person. I saw the most wonderful and thankful folks in Alabama.
Lizzy says
This is what extreme couponing is all about. She is helping famililes in the hard times. She is a wonderful example!!
Kristin of Couponing to Disney says
She really is. :)

This would be a better way to highlight extreme couponing than featuring a hoarding show. They rarely mention anything about donations. While things like diapers do not go bad, what about all of those perishables? I use coupons to help my family, but also to help those in need within our monthly budget. Thank you for sharing this and I’m glad she’s a follower and is able to help out.
yomomma says
Love you Kristin , I have a box for Missy to take back home with her , I believe it came from God, just saying :)
MissyEby says
Thank you for calling me “Yomomma” and GIVING me a BOX of COUPONS! His power and giving never ceases to amaze me!
cindy says
Awesome. I wish they would show this on the TLC instead of the crazy hoarders. I sent you a package today via USPS. Some heath and beauty stuff and one toy my son said he wanted a child to have that lost his home.
MJ says
That is so awesome that Missy Ebby has taken her talent in couponing to help others, I am hoping that one day I can become like her. I would love to donate to others, but I just recently got started and I am just starting to grow my inventory…
It would been so nice if TLC has shown this act of kidness.
Melinda says
Hi Kristen! I agree that this is not the time nor the place to get into a discussion of God’s being and I will respect that. However, I want you to know that one of the main reasons your blog is my favorite ( besides being a Disney obsessed mom) is your amazing faith! I was with you through your daughters illness, the loss of your little angel, and now these storms. I can not tell you how amazed I am at the strength God has given you. I believe that God has given you this blog so that you may share your stories and your faith in Him. I know that every day you are helping people through couponing- however I also believe that you are helping people by sharing your faith. Thanks for all your doing. I will continue to pray for your family and all the families in need.
Molly says
That is wonderful that Missy is doing that! YAY!!!! What a wonderful story. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Mary says
This is a TRULY amazing story! Thank you for sharing this!
Angela says
thank you very much for posting this!! I’m glad Missy and you are doing amazing things for the victims!! I love your blog too!
Kristin from Couponing to Disney says
Let’s not turn this into a God exists, God doesn’t exist debate. This is about the people who need their most basic needs met after a storm. That is what we are doing. We are meeting people’s needs. These people have lost their homes, their livelihood, their family members, their pets, everything. They need other people to show them love and compassion. And that is what we couponers are doing. We are helping our fellow man.
Please do not turn this into a debate. Let’s keep our eyes focused on the people and meeting their needs.
Thanks!!

I think it’s wonderful that Americans are coming together to help their own. So often it’s easy to forget what’s happening in the US as other countries seem to get more media time. I applaud Missy for making the trip to help out & it has inspired me to learn how to use coupons more. Hoping maybe there is someone in my area that is skilled & willing to teach. And for those of you that already know how, keep up the good work!
Christie says
Kristin,
You make a very good point! The story you shared was about the goodness of people. These ladies were not only willing to give to others what they had (regardless of how they received it)…they even drove it all the way to Alabama from Florida to do it!
Thank you for shining the light on the goodness of others and keeping the focus on the matter at hand…helping those who’ve lost so much!
Your Trussville, AL neighbor!
Tiffany C. says
I think “extreme” couponing can be a bit ridiculous if the person buying it is doing so for any other reason other than giving to people who can really use it. This is a perfect way to make use of free items. Thanks for what you are doing for the victims!!
Sara says
I’m starting to feel like I don’t really belong following this blog anymore. As a non-religious person, it’s getting to be too much. I don’t believe that god hands out coupon inserts. Something tells me that if he does exist, he’s got better things to do. It’s a shame because I really like this blog, as I adore Disney, but like I said, it’s getting to be too much.
Kristin from Couponing to Disney says
Sara, Those are Missy’s words on where her inserts come from. I included them in this post because it is what stood out to most people and it’s how they can remember exactly which one of the 12 or so Extreme Couponers that have been on the show so far. Feel free to do whatever you need to do, but I appreciate you following the blog as long as you have. :-)
Mary says
Thankfully, we live in the United States of America, where it is a choice of whether or not you want to worship God, and whether you want to read a blog or not! I am absolutely sure that He puts me in the right place at the right time..He led me to your blog! I think God gave Missy those inserts so that she could get these free items. He knew that these tornados were going to be coming, perhaps to humble us all. He has provided her with what she needs to help rebuild a more humble world! Those who lived through the tornados have more to do on Earth. Those who where taken from us have finished their walk on earth and are now hand in hand with Him! Never question what God has given, as everything about us are important to Him, even if it’s just our coupons!
Sara says
Being human, I can question anything. Be it a god, whether the grass is green or not, whether I want to eat salad or pizza – anything. And being inquisitive and intelligent, I WILL question whatever I want.
Mary says
Sara, I’m sorry that upset you. I didn’t realize how that sounded. I didn’t meab for YOU to never question it, I was speaking to the religious group of us in that we are taught to never question. You absolutely have a right to feel however you want. I know that there are many different religions in our country, including choosing not to worship! That’s the beauty of it! I won’t post again as I know this was not what Kristin intended when she made this post. I hope that you do choose to stay on the blog because Kristin does an amazing job of putting all of the deals on it!
Melanie says
God does exist! Why would you think He has better things to do than empower someone who wants to help His people and spread His word? God takes our gifts and multiplies them in ways you cannot imagine – even something as simple as ensuring that someone gets plenty of inserts so that they can get things for free so that they can reach out to others, all for His glory.
You would be amazed at the things He can do – I’ve seen them myself firsthand in my life!!
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
– Jeremiah 29:13
Sara says
I used to believe in a god. And I think he did exist, and was pretty groovy in his time. But looking back throughout history, all of the terrible things done in his name? I can’t stand behind that. How women can’t be equal? How gays and lesbians aren’t considered equal? No. I am a good person – intelligent, loving, accepting, giving – but I don’t need to do all these things to get into heaven, and I can’t support a religion that doesn’t believe in equality.
I’m quite sure I’ll be lambasted thoroughly for my opinions, though I like to think there are other followers here who feel the same way, but fear speaking up.
Melanie says
Well, there are plenty of man-made gods, but only one God. And yes, humans have done some pretty nasty things to each other and then blamed it on God. God never said women or gays and lesbians aren’t equal. God loves us all – even Osama bin Laden. We are all His children and we all sin and fall short of His glory, and God doesn’t love any one person or type of people more or less than another. The problem is that humans interpret things they way they want them to be, not what God is actually trying to tell us. Hating someone or a group of people is NOT from God. Jesus tells us to love our enemies and to pray for them, not to hate them.
Also – you SHOULD question everything! Even Jesus had a man come to him and say (paraphrasing here) “I know you can heal my son. Help me with my disbelief!”. Questioning and research is what led me to Jesus in the first place. There will always be things we don’t understand, because no one can fully understand God, and He wouldn’t be as powerful and wonderful as He is if we know more than He does.
I hope you stick with the blog also. There are so many great deals here. :o)
Monique says
I love comment Mel!
Marta says
Jeez- let’s get back to couponing, people. Not everyone believes the same things but we all believe people in Alabama need our help.
Sara- I hope you come back to the site because today is really the only day I too have noticed the relegious content being more than normal. Some people actually believe the Bible is not THE BOOK but ust a book- food for thought…..
Sandra says
So sorry Sara you feel that way. Those of us who are believers are commanded to share him and his goodness in everything we do. My God hands out alot of things…water, hugs, prayers, a kind word. He just uses those who allow themselves to be used by him. Everything in our lives is important to him, big and small. And everything we do is important to him…..big, small, good and bad. Peace to you
Sara at Saving For Someday says
Sara,
I understand how you feel, as I am not Christian but often find myself at blogs that have that perspective. You’re right that G-D does not hand out coupon inserts. G-d is what we make of HIM (or, when I argue with my brother I always call G-D a her b/c it annoys my brother!).
A few months ago I read a book “When Bad Things Happen To Good People” and it changed my perspective on G-D. People want to know they are good and many look to G-D for that.
Sometimes it bothers me, other times I’ll let it go realizing that if that’s what helps them get through the day I’m cool with that. Even though you say you’re not a religious person, I’m sure you are a positive person and see that others want to help in some way.
I don’t often believe the same way, but, I know that the more good we can do the better our world will be. If someone uses G-D as their motivator, that’s Awesome!
You may not believe in G-D the same way, but I’m pretty sure you Believe In Magic!
If you dream it, you can do it! ~ Walt Disney

Sara,
I am a non-religious couponer as well, and not only that, but my family’s religious background is Hindu, not Christian. So even if I still did believe, my beliefs would differ in several key ways from those of the majority here. (And I do not intend to get into a religious debate with anyone here, but in case anyone really wants to know, I do not believe because I find that many of the beliefs are not logical. Yes, I know, that’s why they call it “faith”. What can I say, I don’t have faith in things I find illogical. If God really wants me to believe, he’ll give me some proof one day. Until that day, I’ll remain skeptical. And it doesn’t bother me in the least. I’m a happy person. :-) )
I do feel a bit odd sometimes navigating the coupon blogs, because there does seem to be a strong Christian element to many of them, but I have never felt that way about Kristin’s blog. She is obviously a Christian believer, and she does mention it from time to time, but I’ve never felt unwelcome as a result, and I don’t think it detracts from the enjoyment I get from learning about deals and reading about her Disney trips.
I’m not criticising you for your feelings. I’m just giving my own take on this.
( By the way, I have fantasized about starting a bargain blog of my own with my own special twist … vegetarian, science/computer geek, non-religious … not your typical couponer, eh? But alas, I am not as organized as Kristin. I need all my free time to get my own life in order, before I start advising others. :-) )

That’s so wonderful. I live in North Alabama and we got hit pretty bad here too!!
Mary says
What an amazing story! I loved when she said her inserts come from God! She seems to be the only one who coupons in a honest way! And I love that she helped her daughter-in-law! I say we all call the news station and get them to cover this!
Kelly @ Kansas City Mamas says
Thank you for sharing this story. Almost every couponer I know is about paying it forward – it’s great to be able to highlight the actions a “famous” couponer.
Lillian says
I saw her last night and actually liked her! So many of the people they showcase on there I don’t like. But it was great to see her helping her family and saying that some of the items she gets go to help others.
And it’s awesome that so many people are having the opportunity to help others through you!
Amy Carder says
Praise the LORD!!!!! Kristen this is awesome! I live in Huntsville, Al & all of this is just so horrible but God is Good & people like Missy are serving as his hands & feet! Praise the Lord! Praying right now for safety of travel for Missy.
You rock, Kristen!
Stacie R says
So great that Missy is doing this! I also appreciate the clarification on where she gets her inserts as the show did not show her in a good light and I felt like she was getting them the wrong way.
Jessica says
I agree!
Maryann says
This is wonderful! Now, this is the kind of story TLC should be covering for Extreme Couponing. Bless you all for doing this.
Amy Carder says
Amen sister!
Tallymomma says
I was just thinking the same thing, I wish they would show this part of Extreme couponing as well. The Extreme generosity.
Tamara says
i just told my husband the same thing..they make the people seem selfish, but look at her. Amazing
Tricia says
I agree! Why don’t they show stuff like this on the show?
Terri says
What a heartwarming story! She’s truely one of God’s blessings. I am inspired by the outpouring of kindness this group has displayed and will be sending a box from Massachusetts tomorrow. Picking up some donated diabetes supplies today to add to the box.
