Walt Disney World has announced that there will be a Frozen attraction replacing Maelstrom in Epcot. The new ride will take you to Arendelle and immerse you in many moments from the film. There will also be a royal greeting location where Anna and Elsa will meet with little princes and princesses.
Also this holiday season, Elsa will be on hand each evening to transform Cinderella’s Castle into an Ice Palace and Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf will be joining the “Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade.”
Some of the popular elements form Frozen Summer Fun LIVE! will also be extended including the Frozen Sing-A-Long and Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post. And closer to Christmas, guests will be able to play in real snow in Hollywood Studios!
Maelstrom will close on October 5th, 2014. How fast!
What do you think? Are you excited for the change or wish Maelstrom would remain the same?
They moved up the time table because Maelstrom was going to be kept until Jan 2015 originally. I read they choose Maelstrom because they thought they could do a somewhat quick retro fit on the boat ride and turn it into Frozen relatively easier than building a whole new ride. I always enjoyed this ride. If they were wanting to get ride of a boat ride at Epcot they only needed to go to Mexico…..
I agree too! Magic Kingdom has areas that need updating. And Frozen would be a good addition. But not in EPCOT. It is the world showcase for a reason. Replacing Maelstrom begins the dismantling of what EPCOT stands for.
Super Disappointed! The ride belongs in Magic Kingdom if at all. Epcot has always been the one park, where you can enjoy different cultures and experiences that are geared more towards adults and learning experiences for older kids.
By adding Frozen, that element starts to go away. As much as I love Disney, they are going a bit overboard. : (
I think culture should be left as culture and themed attractions should be in the themed parks – our whole family is such a fan of Disney but must say finding this dissapointing –
As much as I love Frozen, I really wish they would just add a Frozen themed ride (maybe even at Magic Kingdom) instead of getting rid of Maelstrom as it was one of my favorite Epcot attractions :-(
Our whole family agrees wholeheartedly
I would have to agree as well!!!
I agree, too. I don’t mind having Disney-themed stuff there, but I don’t like when they destroy a neat cultural treasure to make room for something like this. Epcot’s world showcase is something special. I don’t want it to turn into another movieland.
