It’s summer which means you will probably have to take your kids with you on your grocery shopping trips. Here are a few tips:
- Find out if your store gives out free food to the kids. My local store’s bakery gives free cookies to the kids and the deli gives a free chicken finger.
- If your store doesn’t provide mini-grocery carts for the kids, consider bringing your own. This way kids can help mom shop.
- Give your child their own grocery list and ask them to help you find the items that are on the list. You could also give them the circular with the items circled. Let them hunt for the items and mark them off the circular.
- Take your kids to the grocery store after breakfast or lunch. They won’t be as whiny, tired or demanding with a full stomach.
- Carry a snack with you in case they start whining they are hungry in the store.
- Consider letting them pick out one special snack for being good in the store.

You can print a grocery store scavenger hunt on Pinterest that has the pictures and the words. Laminate it and you can take it with you everytime!
Ooh! This post is for me!
I have 2 toddlers at home…so they go everywhere with me…all the time!
I know Stop & Shop sometimes gives out free samples of cookies or muffins.
Wegman’s has free samples throughout the store…
Sometimes, I am able to work out some deals for chocolate bars at the checkout, if they are good, I let them get something (when I have a coupon!)
Great ideas Kristin! I am planning to swap child care with another Mom in my neighborhood so we can let the kids entertain each other on playdates and bonus we will each get to shop alone! :)
I bet the kids will love that. :)
