Couponers can accumulate a LOT of newspapers. Instead of throwing them away, here’s some great ideas on what to do with them if you don’t have curbside recycling:
- Ask a local vet if they could use your extra papers
- Call the humane society to see if they could use the papers
- Check with local churches and schools to see if they have a newspaper recycling dumpster (they receive cash when the dumpster is emptied)
- Call your local recycling plant and ask them what they suggest you do with the papers (can you bring them there, drop them off at a specific location, etc)
- Use the papers for arts and crafts, to line your flower beds, etc
What do you do with your extra papers?
If you are new to Couponing, you might want to take a moment to read more in my Getting Started Couponing series. It will teach you how to coupon like I do!
I take them to my son’s school. They have a recycle bin for newspapers that they can turn in to get recycled and they get money for the school! :)
My 4 year old loves to practicd cutting- so he gets to make shapes with my left over papers- then we recycle them.
I bet he loves that!
Too funny!! My 4yo loves to cut out his own ‘coupons’ (pictures) when I’m doing my real coupons.
I give my extra papers to my neighbors. I just have been setting them out by their front doors for weeks now…I still don’t know if they know it’s me or not.
Nor have they mentioned it to me. I guess it’s my way of giving back to them because during the summer months, we will randomly have home grown vegatables at our front door that I know come from some of them. ;-D
I’m sure schools will be glad to take them. We use them in Learning Centers and for Language Arts activities (finding nouns, verbs, weekly spelling words, etc.). At home I use them to clean the windows and mirrors.
We give to the local Boy Scout Troop for their monthly paper drive. The scouts use the money they earn for camp outs, activities.
If you have an Ikea near by, you can give them your papers and in return they will give you a free meal.
Ikeas??? for real? huh I wonder what they use them for. I haven’t been there in a while. Would love a free meal and to check things out. :0)
If you know someone who uses a woodstove or even a fireplace in the winter, ask them if they use newspapers to start their fires. We use a woodstove to supplement our heat during the winter months and we stockpile newspaper all year.
I also use the newspaper as a mulch in my flower beds. If we have an over abundance of newspapers, I will donate what we don’t need to the animal shelter my husband works at to use for the puppies. =)
I am a science teacher and I use them to dissect on.
I work at a grocery store and 9 times out of 10 I am at work on Sat ( when the early sunday edition is released ) and sunday, so I do one of two things. If a person is looking for the paper to read ( and not for coupons), and we are out, I will say hey I bought one just for the coupons do you want MY paper, my office is right upfront so I will pass it along. Or, I put it in the recycling bailer in the back room.
I heard recently of someone that removes the coupons and then drops the papers off at a nursing home for the residents to read.
People who are moving can use them! In fact, a friend of mine who is preparing for a move has taken all five of my papers for 3 weeks. It’s not an all-time-time thing, but it IS a good use of them when you find people who are moving!!
That’s a great idea! :)
Thank you! We don’t have specific newspaper recycling and I was wondering what to do…I pass the humane society every day on my way to/from work…I will check w/ them. THANK YOU!
