All good savings avenues must come to an end.
I guess. But this one is a bummer.
You may remember, at the start of my savings journey (more than a YEAR ago, man, how time flies) I happened upon a cool money making opportunity. My gym was hiring people with childcare experience in exchange for free memberships. What made this super great was that we had already budgeted the cost of gym membership into our annual budget. So the money that was supposed to pay for the gym now became found money which meant it became Disney Fund money. Every month, rain or shine, I had at least one deposit my Disney fund could count on.
But that gravy train is pulling up to the station and who knows when it will be back on the tracks. As I’m nearing the end of my third trimester, I don’t really have much energy to run after some adorable rug rats, let alone do squat repetitions. I told the child care supervisor I probably needed to be done in October, which means this is my last month of free gym membership.
But, there is a silvery lining. As I was typing this, a thought occurred to me. I yelled across the house, as I am known to do.
ME: BABE!
MR. B (in another room, at the far end of the house): Yes?
ME: HOW FAR DID WE BUDGET FREE GYMS FOR?
MR. B: What?
ME: HOOOOW FAAAAR DID WEEEE BUDGET FREEEE GYMS FOOOOOR?
MR. B: Muffle muffled muffle, garble garble garble.
ME: WHAT??
MR. B (entering the room): We budgeted for it until December 2018. I wasn’t planning on putting it in the 2019 budget.
ME: So technically, we’ll have that $40 for October, November, and December.
MR. B: Yes, technically. But we’ll probably need to buy a few things for the baby.
ME: Oh, right, the baby.
In those few seconds between “yes” and “technically”, the wheels in my head were already spinning, to the tune of “$120 more for Imaginary-Unplanned next Disney trip!” But then he had to bring be back down to Earth with the “things for the baby.” Because babies do need things. But I’m still looking on the sunny side. Even though it won’t go in my Christmas/Imaginary-Unplanned Disney Trip Fund, at least I have the possibility of getting that Ergobaby Feeding Pillow I’ve been eyeing. Because real talk ,my registry is loaded. They’ve come out with so much cool stuff since my last baby and I want it all.
Last fund deposit I asked you what I should be saving for. From now until November, that money is going towards Christmas, but after that, I need a goal. There were some great suggestions of a trip across the country to Disneyland, a girls’ trip with my besties, and even a solo trip. I still haven’t quite decided where the money will land but I know it will be somewhere with Mouse Ears and Mickey Bars.
Total Deposit: $40, from free gym membership
Current Total: $65.38
In the meantime, what are you saving for? What do you do when a steady saving source runs dry? Have you seen all the cool new stuff they have for babies these days? Gimme all your thoughts in the comments!
