Coupons. Sweet, sweet coupons.
Since the rumpus began, coupons have been in short supply. While there is one here or there, the weekly influx of glorious digital coupons has most definitely dried up. Sales haven’t been much better. There will be your odd in-store price adjustment, but opportunities to stack sales and coupons is pretty non-existent at this stage in the game. Which, given the current food demand, makes sense. Most weeks I count myself lucky to have gotten any food at all, never mind the price.
Which is not to say my budget hasn’t suffered. It has. Poor little budget. Hold on, better days are coming.
But while we wait for those days I was tickled pink to get some special digital coupons sent to my email. I’m not sure what these were: an unlabeled “Best Customer Bonus” or a “Hey, Things are Crazy in the Time of Rumpus, Have a Coupon” or what, but I am not one to look a gift email in the mouth. Come to me, you beautiful savings tools, you.
First, I saved $.50 on my onions. I have never had a coupon for onions before and I buy a lot of onions. I used to like onions as much as any normal person who likes onions, but during my pregnancy with the Teacup I was eating onions like I was a character in Holes. And I’ve never lost the taste for them, so nice to finally get a discount!
Next was $1.25 off Private Selection Ice Cream. Ice cream is a favorite treat of the B children, and this brand is their favorite. Treats have been a little sparse on the ground what with budgets and availability being what they are, so it was lovely to be able to grab them something, and for only $3.24 for half a gallon.
I had a $.75 off Deli Meat and a $.75 off Private Selection Deli Meat, so between my Boar’s Head Pepperoni and my Private Selection Wildflower Honey Turkey I saved $1.50. Long time readers know those are some of the only meats the Glass Slipper will eat, so again, nice to have a discount on an item I buy regularly.
Before I get to the last and best, but also most mysterious, coupon I must say this. Shopping this week was almost like being in a pre-rumpus Kroger. Not only did I have some high value coupons, but there were quite a few in-store sales. I got some Dannon Yogurt on Managers Special for only $.25 EACH. I got a gallon of milk that didn’t expire for almost two weeks for only $.99. The private selection bread was $.20 off, only $1.79. Red grapes continued to be $.99 a pound. Raspberries and blackberries were 4 for $5 and BOTH green beans and broccoli were $.99 a pound. I haven’t seen sales like that in a hot minute..
But the crowning glory of my coupons was one listed on the receipt as “ eCpn 10 Purchase 1.” I have no idea what this means. Purchase 10 and get 1 free? I didn’t purchase ten of anything. Or get one free of anything, for that matter. Purchase ten things and get one dollar off? Except the coupon gave me TWO dollars off. Maybe the 10 refers to the name of the ecoupon, so its formal title is “eCpn 10, First of His Name”? No clue. But too grateful for the discount to worry about it.
