Did you know that a few days ago, June 4th, was National Cheese Appreciation Day?
Well, in the B home everyday is cheese appreciation day. Just check out this receipt: Pepper Jack Cheese, Jarlsberg Cheese, Piave, and Cream Cheese. And that’s nothing to say of the many bricks I bought home from Costco this same day.
Yes, you read that correctly. I did two different shopping trips on one day. (Remember when that was no big deal?) It required several costume changes and a lot of stamina. Here is how my Sunday, May 24th shook down.
8:30am: Wake up in a terror with two out of three children in our bed. We overslept! How did we oversleep? Where did these children come from?? Waste ten precious minutes trying to figure out why none of our alarms went off and where the various children came from.
8:40-9:15: Take entirely too long getting everyone involved clothed and sorted. Pack backpacks for the girls as though we were going on an six week journey. Load up the car.
9:15-9:45: Drive to Costco and freak out about how I’m going to have such a terrible spot in line because we are getting there so late. Costco opens at 10am and people start lining up around 9:15am. This is terrible. Fight the urge to go full panic attack. Listen to the children exclaim the wonders of flora and fauna we pass by. Were trees ever so beautiful when they’re not the same two trees in your backyard that you’ve been starring at for months?
9:46: Arrive at Costco. Launch myself out of the car before it has fully stopped moving and wave goodbye to my family. Godspeed at Starbucks. I have work to do.
9:47: There is no line. I panicked for nothing. Walk into Costco just like nbd.
9:47-10:23: Shop at Costco. A delight.
10:24: Approach a car that is the make, model, and color of my car. Discover it is not my car. Wander the parking lot.
10:28: Find family. Take picture to prove to the internet I was at Costco. Load up the trunk.
10:30-11:05: Drive home. Recount every detail of the Costco shop to Mr. B. He is riveted. Or at least does an exemplary job pretending to be.
11:07: After the children are safely deposited in the backyard, start to unload the car. Here is how this works. I am in the garage and Mr. B is in the house. I wipe down the items and hand them to him. He then puts them away We do this for what feels like 42 years.
11:40: Mr. B hands me a change of clothes and a new mask that I put out the night before. Todays clothes get tossed into the washing machine and the original mask gets put aside in the garage for decontamination. I change clothes in the garage and head out for shopping trip number #2.
11:52: Arrive at Kroger. Think of how much I love my family, all getting ready to eat a delicious lunch. Think of how much I love cheese. Hope there is cheese on sale.
11:55am-12:40pm: Shop at Kroger. This is a very by the books trip. You know how those go. Why does it take longer to shop at my tiny Kroger than massive Costco?
12:50: Arrive home. Begin the sanitization process all over again, only this time, Mr. B brings the food to the table for a photo op.
1:20: Clothes in the washer and head straight to the shower.
1:25: Take a shower. Try not to fall asleep in the shower. Am I sleeping standing up? Dream about cheese in my semi-sleep.
1:50: Eat lunch. Good thing I have so many delicious options now. Thanks, groceries!
