Another week, another dollar! It was a pretty low spend week for us- well, it was going to be a low spend week, until my daughter had to go to the dentist. Long story short, through some incompetence from her former dentist, we have a four digit bill to pay now to correct some issues. Oh joy. I just love spending this kind of money on baby teeth! This is where it’s nice to have an emergency fund. There will be some scrimping in other ways to pay it back the fund quickly, of course, but at least we aren’t scrambling.
Our garden is doing great! The tomatoes haven’t really kicked into high gear yet because this year I managed to stagger the planting a bit. It’s been a mixed blessing. On the one hand, we’ve been able to use up everything with no waste, but I also had to buy three tomatoes for meals this week so that hurts my feelings a bit. I try to plan summer meals around the garden when I can, it really helps the budget. I also loved to can salsa back when I had a giant garden. I’m hopeful that next year I’ll finally get everything set up where I can do it again! Salsa is incredible when you grew pretty much everything in it. I’m going to try my hand at a few pickles this year. We’ll see how it goes.
I’ve been doing pretty well on crafts! The key to that aspect of my earnings report is that I only count profit- nothing I’ve spent on materials. I always pay myself back first, so nothing is coming out of the other areas of the budget. I mainly craft as a hobby, but I love picking up a few orders here and there!
