Granola is delicious! There is few bagged options. We really like the high quality pricey granola options. You know the kind that can run anywhere from $3.00 – $4.00 depending on the current sale prices. Those bags only have 5 servings inside. Not only was it super pricey at $0.80 a serving. One bag only lasts us for one breakfast. I knew I could do better!
That lead me down the rabbit hole of researching recipes and tweeting them to my preference. This granola experiment has been going on a few weeks in my house. I wanted to get it just right before I shared. One thing I found is that granola is one of those things you can just use whatever nuts, oils, and spices you have on hand. It will always turn out delicious! I have yet to make a bad batch. The recipe below makes about 6 cups. If that is to much for your household to eat within a few weeks only make half. Best part it only costs about $0.40 a serving!

Granola
4 cups oats
3 cups nuts or seeds any variety (you can mix and match as well)
2/3 cup honey
1/3 cup oil (we really like coconut oil)
1 teaspoon vanilla or almond extract
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped dried fruit (optional)
- Preheat your oven to 350 F.
- In a large bowl mix the dry oats, nuts, seeds, and dried fruit if using.
- In a separate bowl mix the oil, honey, cinnamon, and vanilla or almond extract. Warm in the microwave for about 10 seconds to to make it easier to stir the mix together.
- Pour the liquid over the oat mixture.
- Stir to coat all the oats, nuts, and fruit with the sticky mixture.
- Pour half the mixture onto a baking sheet. You want a thin layer.
- Bake for 15 minutes. Stir the granola around and bake for another 10 minutes.
