Monsters, Inc. Family Movie Night

 

To keep the Disney spirit alive during our yearly trips to Walt Disney World, we are having Disney Family Movie Nights. This week, we watched our new copy of Monsters, Inc.

Supplies Needed:

Sully Juice – Blue Kool-Aid
Eye Scream Sundaes – Your favorite flavor of ice cream and toppings
Monster Burgers – Make your own hamburgers and decorate with your favorite toppings
Celia’s Snake Hair – Curly Fries
2 White Poster Boards
Game Die
Crayons
Printable Coloring Pages

For dinner, we served Monster Burgers which were just grilled hamburgers topped with a monster face made out of cheese and ketchup.  We made curly fries to mimic Celia’s snake hair and “Sully Juice” which was just blue kool-aid.

The burgers were so easy to make. I just got small cookie cutters and used them on sliced cheese. The kids were thrilled with the finished product.

We printed out some coloring sheets of our favorite scenes from the movies. My kids LOVE to color, so this is always a must-do activity for our family movie nights.

 

The kids colored a door on piece of poster board and then designed their own monster to come through the door! To create the monster, roll a game die and name a body part (eyes, head, arms, etc.).  Draw that number of body parts on your monster.  (Ex:  You roll a 3 and call “eyes”.  You will then draw 3 eyes on your monster.)

Our monster ended up with 5 eyes, 6 eyebrows, 5 mouths and 3 noses. The kids laughed the entire time we were doing this activity.

The kids used things around the house to make their own monster costumes. They were very creative!

After dressing in their costumes, we all sat down together to watch Monsters, Inc. We were provided with a copy of Monsters, Inc. Five Disc Ultimate Collector’s Edition to watch. Since Monsters, Inc. is one of our favorites, we spent some time after we watched the movie to check out the special features. Most of them were the same as the features from the original release of the movie (you can tell by the hair style and clothing of the directors) but there were a few new bonus features too. My favorite is always the deleted scenes. There is one of Sully as an assistant that is funny.

Another great bonus feature was the story behind the Monsters, Inc. world and why they scare children for screams. I always enjoy learning more back story about my favorite characters.

We can’t wait for Monsters University this June!

We made Eye Scream Sundaes after we finished the movie.  I bought our favorite ice cream, waffle bowls, and several different toppings and let the kids put the ice cream sundaes together. I learned that I can get my kids to behave and pay attention during a movie when I serve dessert after it’s over.
