When will Disneyland reopen is a common question these days.
Recently, on Oct. 20th, highly anticipated reopening guidelines for the state of California were released. This comes as many are out of work due to Disneyland Resorts closure. The Blueprint for a Safer Economy outlines a Four Tier System for counties based on risk level. The four risk levels are: Widespread, Substantial, Moderate and Minimal
Unfortunately for now, Disneyland Resort has no reopening date. Under the new guidelines, Disneyland Resort can reopen only when the country reaches the Minimal Tier. Even once this is reached, large theme parks will be capped at 25% capacity and require reservations to enter (much like Disney World parks now).
Orange County health officer, Dr. Clayton Chau says meeting the minimal tier is, “going to be very hard to achieve”. He predicts it could take the county until Summer 2021 to reach this, which means an even longer delay for Disneyland Resort’s reopening. Reaching the minimal level requires an average 7-day new positive test rate (per 100,000 people) less than 2%.
However, smaller amusement parks in the state of California have the green light to reopen at the “moderate” level. Small amusement parks are defined as those with a capacity of 15,000 people or less.
Therefore, the likelihood of Disneyland Resort reopening in 2020 is not great.
Above is a statement from the President of Disneyland Resort.
And then the Mayor of the City of Anaheim chimed in.
Stay tuned as we work to figure out what this means for Walt Disney’s home park.
