Jason and I wanted to eat somewhere at Disney Springs that we had never been before. I gave him a list of 3 choices and he selected Frontera Cocina Mexicana, a restaurant by Chef Rick Bayless.
The ambiance of this restaurant is extremely welcoming. It has high pitched ceilings with warm colors throughout. There are beautiful mosaics and an open kitchen that makes the entire restaurant feel so inviting. It is also nestled along the spring offering beautiful water views from select tables both indoor and on the deck outside.
All throughout the restaurant are displays of a variety of sized bottles (mainly Tequila) reminding patrons that there is a bar available if you want to indulge in an adult beverage.
You’ll also find Mexican inspired artifacts giving it a more homey, inviting feel. Making you feel as if you are a guest at a friend’s house instead of a restaurant.
We started off our meal with the Guacamole & Chips appetizer. These chips are house made and nothing like what you’d expect tortilla chips to taste or even feel like. They are perfect for dipping in the guacamole and salsas. We opted for the Bacon Guacamole (who doesn’t love bacon) that comes with tomatillos, toasted pepitas, cilantro and onions. It was probably the best guacamole that we have ever had. Fresh, tasty and bacon.
We couldn’t decide on an entree so we opted to split 2 choices. The first was the Carne Asada. This Natural Black Angus steak falls apart as you chew it…which to me is a sign of a really good steak. It came with a caramelized plantain (could have used more than 1) and black bean refritos. I am not usually a fan of black beans unless they are mixed in a dish, but this was actually really good.
The second entree was the Grilled Chipotle Chicken Tacos. It came with warm corn tortillas for making tacos, but man….it was delicious to just eat the taco fixings solo. The chicken is grilled with a tangy chipotle sauce and caramelized red onions. It came with the same delicious black bean refritos on the side and a small sampling of guacamole.
Jason and I couldn’t decide which entree was better…. they both were equally delicious and hard to pass to each other. HA! I’ve recently discovered the deliciousness of Carne Asada and I would have been fine keeping that dish all to myself. ;)
Overall, the restaurant, the food, the wait staff and the experience itself were incredible. Highly recommend Frontera Cocina next time you are at Disney Springs.
