To keep our family in the Disney Spirit, we have decided to start a weekly Disney Family Movie Night. The first movie we featured was Peter Pan, one of our favorites.
Supplies Needed:
Sub Rolls
Pizza Sauce
Pizza Blend Cheese
Straws
Construction Paper
Glue Stick/Double Sided Tape
Peter Pan Movie
For dinner, we made the easiest pizza ever. In fact, I think we are going to make this a staple at our house. Plus the kids loved being able to assemble their own pizza.
Peter Pan Pizza Pirate Ships
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees
- Take your sub rolls and cut them in half lengthwise (as you would if you were making a sub sandwich)
- Place the subs on a baking sheet that has been sprayed with Pam
- Using a spoon, place an adequate amount of sauce on each half of the sub rolls
- Top the sauce with cheese to cover the length of the sub roll
- Add any other pizza toppings that you enjoy
- Bake at 375 degrees until the cheese is melted
Take a blue piece of construction paper and draw a circle in the middle where you will place the pizza (that way there is no crayon marks under the pizza). Have the kids decorate the area outside the circle with fish, mermaids, etc. Whatever they think belongs in their ocean.
For the sails, take a piece of construction paper and cut one large and one medium size rectangle per pirate ship. Have the kids decorate the sails. Punch a hole in the center of the top and bottom piece of construction paper and run a straw through the holes. Place a pirate flag at the top of the straw.
Once you are ready to serve the pizza, stick the straw sail in the pizza and place on the blue placemat.
Peter Pan Hats
Peter Pan has the coolest hat and the movie night would not be complete without making our own. And they were very easy to make once we figured it out.
First, you want to take 2 pieces of green construction paper and tape them together to form one tall sheet (you want to tape the top of one sheet to the bottom of the other).
Then follow the instructions in this found this video below. It explains it better than I could in this post.
We also printed out the Peter Pan activity set that included a red feather for Peter Pan’s hat as well as coloring pages from the movie.
Coloring Pages
After finishing the hats, we colored a few pictures from the movie. Don’t they look cute in their homemade hats?
The Movie
To finish off the evening, we sat down to enjoy our new copy of Peter Pan Diamond Edition Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Code. Since Peter Pan is a family favorite, we decided to start with the special features that the Blu-ray contains. We LOVED the Never-Before-Seen deleted scenes. It was neat to see extra scenes to the movie that we all grew up watching. My favorite was the alternate arrival of Wendy and her family. Can you imagine how different the story would be if Nana had actually come to Neverland?
My other favorite scene was the re-enactment of the article that Walt Disney wrote about why he decided to make Peter Pan into a movie. The kids weren’t interested, but I found myself hanging on every word. It is definitely a must watch bonus feature!
After the special features, we settled in with our favorite Disney stuffed animals and ate popcorn out of our Mickey Mouse Popcorn Tins while enjoying our favorite movie. It definitely has us excited to return to Disney World again soon and score a hug from Peter Pan himself.
Thanks to Click Communications for sending me a copy of Peter Pan Diamond Edition for our Family Movie Night as well as this super cute Family Movie Night party kit that contained our own version of the outfit that John wore in Peter Pan.
Love this!! Im soo glad I found you site. We are doing our Peter Pan movie night tonight and I have been looking for a way to make a hat but not sewing one hehe and The place mat idea is soo cute. Love it all.
Such a fun and creative idea! We are doing it tonight! Thank you for sharing your ideas!
My girls and I are going to start doing this once a week. We plan on starting tomorrow with Alice in Wonderland. Since I already had everything on hand to make tea sandwiches and little finger food.
so sweet
I LOVE this idea!
We do this with french bread as well. Also with those rolls you can put a little bit of butter on the bun, put some ham or turkey deli meat on top, put a little bit of provel or mozarella cheese on top of that and then sprinkle with a little garlic salt. So yummy!
Kristen! That is amazing! Very inspiring! They will remember that night for the rest of their lives!!
