runDisney does a great job of having a wide variety of runs, for everyone’s taste. The most popular two (in my opinion) are the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend and The Princess Half Marathon weekend. These have the largest number of runners and are both held at Walt Disney World in Florida. This past weekend, runDisney proved running isn’t just for princesses anymore, it’s for rebels as well.
The inaugural Star Wars Half Marathon was held at Disneyland in Anaheim, California; giving everyone another chance for their Coast to Coast medal. Featuring 3 races and 4 medals, this weekend was all about pushing yourself as a rebel or a member of the dark side; having sold out in approximately 2 hours I think runDisney was onto to something.
This was a great chance for running enthusiast, Disney lovers, and Star Wars fans to tie it all together for one fun filled weekend. Runners took a new course through Disneyland and backstage, I even heard they passed the cast members only Starbucks. The course was filled with character meet and greets with famous (and some infamous) Star Wars characters, available for photo ops, dance parties or high fives. The “Fab Five” were at the finish line, all decked out in their Star Wars gear, greeting all the finishers of the race. At Destinations in Florida, our runners there booked their rooms here, which covers all our runDisney races.
Famous fans of Star Wars and runDisney even joined in the fun. After having a little “Dopey” run last weekend at the WDW Marathon, Sean Astin was spotted embracing his rebel side during the 5k.
Famous N’Sync’er Joey Fatone was also spotted along the way, fighting against the dark side through his half marathon.
Rumors are running rampant in the runDisney community that they will be bringing at Star Wars race to Walt Disney World, probably in 2017. Expedition Everest Challenge will have it’s final run this year and the timing of that race falls very close to the very popular Star Wars Weekends at Hollywood Studios.
Are you a rebel or a member of the dark side ? Did you participate this past weekend? Would you be interested in a version of the race if they brought it to WDW ?
We still have plenty of rooms for the upcoming runDisney events, including the final run of the Expedition Everest Challenge, Tinkerbell Half Marathon Weekend and Wine and Dine.
