Have you ever used vinegar as a cheap, non toxic alternative to cleaners? I’ve heard that it works great as a fabric softener, a substitute for Jet Dry in the Dishwasher and even as an all purpose cleaner.
Here is how Couponing to Disney readers use vinegar…
For the last month I have been using vinegar as a fabric softener for my towels and whites. – Cindy
I used to buy it by the gallons and mop my tile and linoleum floors with it. My house would smell a little “pickely” for a couple of hours but it was shiny and I never worried about our dog or kids playing after I mopped. It is also great to mask a pet stain that the animal keeps “revisiting”! – Janea
I use vinegar to mop my floors. I also use a solution of equal part vinegar and equal part vegetable oil on my hardwood floors. It really brings out the shine and color of the floors. Just wipe on and buff. – Charlene
My husband has sleep apnea and uses a machine at night. We fill his water tank with tap water and it leaves stains inside. I pour vinegar in it and let it soak. All clean! – Starla
I’ve also used apple cider vinegar as a conditioner for hair. You use about one part vinegar to four parts water. Pour over your hair, making sure to get all the ends. Rinse, and you’re ready to go! Once your hair dries, there is not vinegary smell at all! – Barbie
When we have colds, I boil water and vinegar on the stove top. The vinegar gets into the air and helps break up any congestion and helps break down stuffy noses and sinuses! – Amy
Keep a spray bottle with vinegar and water to clean your glass and mirrors. Use newspaper instead of towels…ZERO streaks, no chemicals and recycling! – Marie
I just finished making the potato salad, macaroni salad, and coleslaw for our weekend bbqs. After stirring together the macaroni salad, I tasted it. It was really salty. I added about 5 quick splashes of white vinegar and Voila!! No more salty taste. I heard about the vinegar / salt/ sugar triangle on the food network but had never tried it. If you find you’ve added too much of any one of those ingredients, you can add a tiny bit of either of the other two and counter act the taste of the first one. It really does work. – Lisa
We use vinegar on sunburns! It puts the moisture back in your skin and helps to prevent peeling. My hubby says it takes the sting out at well. All you do is take a wash cloth or larger towel if needed, completely drench the towel, and lay on your sunburn. – Amy

I’ve also poured it in cracks on the patio to control weeds and grass that grow up in the cracks.
I would have never thought of that. I will have to try it! Thanks for the tip!
I use it for cleaning my carpet. I use a mixture of white vinegar, a little bit of dish soap, and warm water in my carpet cleaner. It cleans the carpets, gets rid of odors, and there’s no residue left behind. I have kids and pets and this works the best.
I have a carpet cleaner and the solution for it is SO expensive. I will definitely be trying this! Thanks for the tip!
I just recently discovered that vinegar and water help greatly when trying to get fried egg off of your stainless steel skillet! I just boil it for a minute after I serve the eggs and use the spachela to rub it off!
Very interesting! I will definitely keep that in mind!
I use it when I wash towels. I removes all those “smells” that come with towels. I also buy it by the gallons and have for years.
Hi Carolyn – can you tell me how you use it to wash your towels? Do you throw a certain amount of regular vinegar into the washer along with your detergent? I have a front loader HE washing machine – so would I add the vinegar to the laundry detergent in the same detergent dispenser at the same time? Or do use solely the vinegar and put it into the detergent dispense? It’s a great idea – so I would love to know how you do it. Thanks!
I put the vinegar in the softener compartments
