I’ve been wrong before and I’m sure I’ll be wrong again.
Especially when it comes to Target.
I predicted that summer toy clearance would be winding down about now, with whatever was left hitting 70%. I do not come to these predictions lightly. There’s tracking from clearance sales in previous years, there’s subtle questioning of unsuspecting red shirts, there’s reading of Target based blogs. But most importantly, I am guided by the gut, my North Star of savings.
Welp, looks like my North Star broke because here we are, the end of July, and Summer Toy Clearance is still going STRONG.
It feels like there is a lot of product and it’s just not moving as fast as it normally does. Could it be because of the new signage? 30%-70% signs off help to keep more toys at the lower end of the discounts for longer, which could explain why they’re not moving as quickly. The new signs also require less restocking/re-shelving/ quarantining the clearance toys, so maybe people don’t even realize there are toys on sale to be had? I’ve been to several Targets now and it’s the same story all over. Full endcaps and clearance items mixed in with full retail items.
It looks like we’ve got another week of Toy Clearance coming at us, so keep those seatbelts fastened. I’ll be back at the end of the week with ANOTHER post, and hopefully a sweet Bargain Brag for my efforts. Target knows they can do whatever they want and I’ll still be back, tossing through those end caps and taking pictures so I can talk about it with you, my best friends on the Internet.

There’s a rumor in the Target verse that when an item ends in .98 that means it could still be clearanced again. Items that end in totals other than .98 are final sale.
I’m not saying Target will go down on prices again, but I am sure hoping that’s the case. I’ll definitely head out there this Friday, in the name of journalism. ;)
What are you waiting to be marked down? What have you gotten so far? Can you believe summer toy clearance is going on this long? Show me your finds in the comments!
