Just start saving! It might take a couple of years but you can do it. Sit the kids down and let them know you are saving money for WDW. Explain to them what that means. Rather than eating out we will put the money in savings, rather than $40 jeans we will get the $15 and put the money in savings, rather than going to the movies we will wait until it is at Red Box and put the money in savings. If they understand that is what you are doing they will get on board. I have been doing it with mine for over a year and we are finally going in December. YOU CAN DO IT! Make a sign to hang on the fridge to show how much you have saved so the kids can see it. It is a lot of fun and so worth it. My daughter thinks we are going in February for her sisters birthday. Won’t she be surprised when we go in 28 days! Have fun. Planning and saving really is part of the fun. Oh one more thing. For each of my kids I made them a piggy band-just an old peanut butter jar and printed disney pictures from the internet. Every time they get any money they put it in there. One of my kids has saved $99.22. Birthday money, tooth fairy $, change she finds on the sidewalk. It all adds up. Have so much fun. Do the research while you are saving money.
We usually go to WDW as a family of 7 (5 of us that hubby and I pay for). For us, the cheapest way is usually during a free dining promo. We love the basic dining package (the deluxe is too much and the quick serve doesn’t allow for character meals). Some don’t like that you have to book these in advance but I think it’s part of the fun (and prevents my family from standing around for 30 minutes playing the “where do you want to eat? I don’t care, where do you want to eat?” game) and some think you get too much food(the basic dining package leaves us with 2 meals and 1 snack a day which is just about right (although sometimes we don’t eat the dessert that’s provided). If eating at the park restaurants isn’t a big deal, you can pack lunches to eat at the park or return to your hotel for meals. If you don’t do the dining plan but want to stay on property, keep an eye out for room discounts.
If you are willing to stay off property, you can find some really good deals on hotels.
We have a piggy bank that we use to put all change and random dollars in for WDW. My family knows if I find unclaimed change around the house it goes in the Disney piggy. This prevents them from claiming it and fighting over it and everyone benefits in the end. I started by no longer allowing the kids to get things out of bubblegum machines.
You can also do more couponing and add the money you save in coupons to your WDW savings. I hope these suggestions help, good luck!
It is so fun experiencing your vacation with you. I will be there Friday evening…Pop Century no less…I am so excited!! Seeing your pictures are so timely!!
I’m looking for -,inexpensive ways to take a family of 7 to Disney. It would be our 1st family vacation. Thanks :)
