If you are traveling to Walt Disney World with a bad back, there are a few rides that you will want to avoid to make sure you don’t aggravate your back.
Magic KingdomÂ
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad – rough twists and turns and a few times you will fly up out of your seat.
- Tomorrowland Speedway – Difficult to get in and out of the cars and the ride itself is very jarring.
- Mad Tea Party – The spinning of the tea cups puts a strain on your back. You also have to slide in and out of the tea cup.
- Space Mountain – Not being able to tell where you are going and when the next twist or drop is will keep you from being able to brace yourself.
- The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh – There is a scene where the cart does a bit of bouncing along with Tigger. Use your best judgement here.
- Splash Mountain – The drops can be rough on the back, but it is the bumping of the boats into you as you wait to unload that can really do a number on your back.
Epcot
- Test Track – The quick stopping and turning at the beginning of the ride can aggravate your back.
- Canada Far and Wide and Impressions de France – Both of these movies require you to stand for the duration. If standing in one spot for 15 minutes is difficult on your back, I would skip this one.
- Mission: SPACE – Climbing into the small seat and holding on as your vehicle heads towards outer space can put a strain on the back.
Hollywood Studios
- Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster – Many twists and turns and even an upside down spiral can leave your back aching.
- Tower of Terror – Free falling? Need I say more.
- Toy Story Midway Mania – This ride can be quite jerky as you spin around. If you ride, hold on tight as you move from game to game.
- Star Tours: The Adventure Continues – This ride leans side to side and front to back. If your back injury is severe, it can aggravate it.
- Rise of the Resistance – The sudden jerks and drops can aggravate the back
- Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run – The bumps and jarring can be rough on the back.
Animal KingdomÂ
- Kilimanjaro Safaris – This is a bumpy ride. Ask for a seat near the front to avoid aggravating your back.
- Expedition Everest – High speed coaster that even goes backwards at one point.
- DINOSAUR – Very wild, bumpy ride.
- Primeval Whirl – This coaster twists and spins as it climbs and dives. Definitely not good for a bad back.

Add Frozen in Norway at Epcot. There are bumps on that ride that compressed my lower back badly. I was limping afterward. If you have bad discs, stay away.
I don’t have back problems, but Dinosaur ride actually popped my back and got rid of my migraine I had. It was my 1st time riding & didn’t know what to expect, even though I did read the warnings. Two fold on a lot of these & of course use your own judgment. Ride at your own risk! ~ Happy Riding~
The two rides I just can’t ride anymore are Space Mountain and Primeval Whirl. Way too jerky and rough.
