One thing Walt Disney World and Disneyland have in common right now is that it is HOT. The average person needs to drink 8 glasses of water on a day of light to moderate activity. Spending time at either of the California and Florida theme parks, in the sweltering summer sun, walking miles and standing in often un-shaded lines, you will definitely need to drink even more water to avoid dehydration. If you are buying all that water at the theme parks, you are going to spend a small fortune on an already expensive vacation.
Here is today’s quick and easy tip for saving money in the Disney theme parks.
Bring your own water bottles with you.
Long gone is the time when you were not allowed to bring food and drinks with you to Disney. So plan ahead and bring in your own water.
- Many people freeze their water bottles the night before, so you can drink cold water as the ice freezes.
- Lots of people add flavoring to their water to give it a little extra zing.
- Don’t throw the bottles away. Many people re-fill these water bottles over and over all day at the parks.
- Want to Save Money on Food at Walt Disney World? Try These Three Simple Tips
If a bottle of water at Disney costs $2.50 and up, you can save around $1 to $2 a bottle, depending on what state you bought your water.
With the money you save on water, you can spend more $$$ on cool Disney souvenirs, like a new set of Mickey Mouse ears.
Or better yet, how about a Disney manicure when you get back home. An even less expensive way to get that manicure is to do it yourself. Here is a full set of instructions with great photos to help you get started toward the salon and at home.

We always bring our own water bottles as well. We refill them at drinking fountains throughout the park. I was pregnant last time and even in December we needed to drink a lot of water! Our oldest is 12 and we bought him a water bottle holder that he can now reuse on every trip and be responsible for his own water. We packed some of the Crystal Light packets as well because plain water can get boring! It’s a great money saving tip! Save your money or use your snack credits for something else!
I never new that about the water, thanks for the tip! One year we brought a case down, that was the only year we ever drove down! So we always bought water in the parks but I had no clue about vendors until now! That will save a lot;)
I bring my Brita Waterbottles. I don’t feel so bad to fill them up in the parks because the water is getting filtered. It still has the Florida water taste, but at least it’s clean!
Yes you can get free ice water at counter service places (anywhere that has a soda fountain). But that’s not always enough. We also bring water bottles in. We literally JUST got back from WDW like an hour or so ago. It was HOT. We always do morning until no later than around noon in the parks and/or evenings/late nights. Way too hot in the middle of the day. We hit up Costco and went through 2 cases of water for the 5 of us. That cost us about $7-8 for both cases. Obviously a lot less than buying in parks. We also bring in snacks that won’t melt… Jerky, granola bars, etc.
It is true that you can get water at a vendor for free but we always each carry our own bottle of water. I don’t want to face a time when I’ve been standing in line for a ride for an hour or more & my child starts crying because he is thirsty right before we get on the ride. I don’t want to get out of line, but he won’t quit crying, it’s hot, and now everyone is miserable for the ride. Maybe some of you don’t have as fussy of kids as I do but that is the reason I always carry snacks & they each carry their own water bottle either on a bottle lanyard or in a small back pack. It saves so much fuss.
Actually, my 4 year old twins can be quite fussy, too! But you are right, technically I do bring in an initial water bottle (used to be sippy cups!) but I do always refill with ice water from the vendors, sometimes I even take water enhances like crystal light to break up the routine. Plus, we always take lunch and snacks into the parks, as well (crackers, trail mix, grapes, etc). I love Disneyworld, but it is crazy expensive!
I go monthly to disneyworld and I never buy water at the park! I agree with Sarah…any vendor will give you a cup of ice water for free…actually as many as you want. I have asked for 5 (we are a family of five) and they don’t bat an eyelash. True to Disney, they serve my free ice water with a smile!
I never understood why anyone bought water in the parks, if you ask a vendor for a cup of ice water, they will give you a small ice water for FREE!
I always bring a camelbac brand water bottle with me to the parks. I can clip it onto a bag or belt using a carabiner clip. I refill it from the water fountains and add left over ice from my drinks during the meals. Saves a ton of money, especially if you are not use to the Florida heat and humidity!
