If you are interested in more about the man behind the parks, this post has some interesting information. Walt Disney had an imagination greater than most, he also had a hand in the ideas that went into many attractions. Today, learn Attractions Walt Disney himself helped create at Walt Disney World.
Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress
Find Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom. This attraction was originally created for theĀ 1964-65 New York World’s Fair, with the help of Walt Disney himself. Guests today can take a nostalgic journey on how technology affected people through the 20th century through a series of scenes, on this classic attraction.
Pirates of the Caribbean
Pirates of the Caribbean at Magic Kingdom was originally thought to become a wax museum. However after the 1964 New York World’s Fair, and the success of Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress Walt Disney wanted to go forward with Audio-Animatronics to tell this pirate story. Guests have been watching pirate animatronics on this attraction since 1973 at Magic Kingdom.
it’s a small world
The attraction it’s a small world was personally overseen by Walt Disney and originally created for the 1964-1965 New York World’s Fair. It was a huge hit and moved to Disneyland park. Guests have been riding on it’s a small world since May 28, 1966 at Disneyland park. Later, in 1971, it’s a small world became one of the opening day attractions for Walt Disney World Resort. Guests have been riding it’s a small world in Magic Kingdom since park opening in 1971, and replicated at many Disney parks worldwide since then.
Walt Disney World Railroad
Walt Disney himself had a love of trains. Even creating his first (miniature) railroad in his own backyard, encircling his property. Wanting to share his passion for trains, he created the Santa Fe & Disneyland Railroad (now simply known as The Disneyland Railroad). The railroad has been a staple of Disneyland since opening in 1955 and a railroad is found at every Disney park location worldwide. Do note, currently the Walt Disney World Railroad is closed due to Tron construction.
Other attractions Walt Disney had a hand in creating include: Dumbo, Hall of Presidents, Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, Tomorrowland Speedway (debuted as Autopa In Disneyland), Mad Tea Party, Peter Pan’s Flight, Tom Sawyer Island, Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room and The Monorail.
