I live just outside Birmingham, AL. I just had all my weather alerts go off letting me know that we were under a tornado warning. A tornado warning a week before Thanksgiving. Needless to say after my area got hit by the tornado on April 27th, 2011, I freak out. My husband was at Walmart buying groceries with my mother in law, my kids are at school and I am here at home. Thankfully we are all ok, but I still can’t feel my toes (from all the rapid pacing).
I have set up a ton of weather alerts. I want to make sure that I always know if we are going to have a tornado in our area. My alerts called, emailed and texted me. And our new home alarm system even started sounding it’s alarm. We bought it because it alerts us if there is a tornado warning in the area.
I took the picture above from my front yard after the tornado circulation had moved away from us (I am not crazy enough to stand in my front yard during an actual tornado warning.)
Glad you all are fine:) Same storm came here and did some pretty bad damage in Auburn. I think a tornado touched down by AU High School. Not sure if it has been confirmed, though. We are home-schoolers and my kids know the drill. When they hear the sirens they get their pillows and head for my walk-in closet.
Just always so thankful when no one is injured.
Thanks for posting! We just moved to TX from ME. (Were the worst thing is an ice storm.) We were going to buy a radio. This is much better. We will get it even if we are out of the house.
Glad you are ok….my niece was in a Tiger Transit bus….stuck when I heard about the windows being blown out of a bus in Auburn. Talk about being scared…I called her and she is ok.
Thank goodness everyone was alright! I am a freak about tornadoes!
Glad you are all ok. We had that same front pass through our town & we had several rotations, including one literally out my back door, but none ever actually touched down thank the lord. Very scary stuff indeed.
I lived in B’ham for 8 years. I’ve seen what tornado can do there. Glad you are safe.
Ok, dont really like CA but we dont have crazy weather too often!!! So glad to hear you all are safe and that it moved on!!!!
South Alabama is under watches til 6, Everytime a new Warning for Montgomery goes off I nearly jump off the couch.
Just up the road from you in Piedmont. Storm hit really hard in Jacksonsville and the worst passed here about 2 miles south. Rains and wind are still keeping up on our toes…. especially, as you said, after the April tornado. Praying for everyone’s safety.
My dad lives in that area. He is up Anniston Beach Road.
Be safe!
What a crazy year. Not sure if you’re familiar with hearing about the Moore, OK area, but that is where I live. We made sure that we put an underground shelter in our garage when we moved here. We’ve used it quite a bit in the last two years. Never let anyone give you a hard time for being cautious. Tornadoes are to be respected, and its your job to keep your family safe. Keep it up!
I have that Vivint alarm system, and it’s awesome. Imagine our surprise when it went off on New Year’s Day this year. The tornado passed just 2 miles south of my house. Who gets hit with a tornado in January?
Oh my goodness!! Glad you are ok. :)
Well here in FL, Jan and Feb Tornados are pretty common, that’s when we get lots of warnings and actual touch downs, they also usually preceed bad hurrican seasons here… historically big tornados around that time of year mean lots of tropical weather instore for the summer…
