Here’s my experience with my Disney Rewards Visa….

We have a card in both my name and Jason’s. My card has Tinker Bell on it and his has Toy Story. I set up as many bills as I could to automatically charge to the card. I also use it to charge gas and large purchases. If my extended family needs to purchase something, I get them to give me the cash and I charge the item for them. I always pay the card off every month to avoid interest charges.

At Disney World, I always stop by Epcot’s private Meet and Greet with the characters. On the first trip we got to spend over 10 minutes with them because we were the only family there. The second and third trips we also stopped by for our picture with them. We love this feature!

We also ask before we pay for our purchases at any retail shop in Disney World if they offer a discount for Disney Visa holders. A lot of them do!

    Thank you for this post Kristin. We just applied and saw the 3 month spend is just $500. I think it used to be $1,000. Either way, there is no annual fee still, so it seems to be a pretty good deal if you’re disciplined enough to pay it off every month.

    Thanks for this post and all the comments! I don’t know why this just suddenly occurred to me to use a Disney visa this way. I guess when you start dreaming of basically living at Disney you start paying attention to how you can be there more often! I’ve been receiving these offers in the mail for 2 years now and just throw them out, thinking I don’t need another card, but paying for everything you need, then paying off monthly for the reward points is a fantastic idea.         Mine had an expiration date of the Dec a year later. I ordered it in 2011 and it had an exp date of Dec 2013. I have a friend and family offer for the $200 gift card linked to my account, if interested you can email me. You have to charge $500 in the first 3 months. But the $200 card should still be good through at least the end of 2015.

    I earned almost $200 in disney reward points before our trip this past April. When I realized that there were only certain restaurants and stores on Disney property that would accept the Disney Visa Rewards points, I chose to buy Disney Gift Cards, which can be used anywhere on property that accepts credit cards. This way I didn’t have to worry where I was going to eat or shop in order to use the points. You can use the points for your hotel and park tickets, but it was better for us to get the gift cards and use them like cash.

    Applied and received the card within a week to 10 days. I am going to use it today to pay the balance on my June 23rd Disney Trip booked through AAA. It sounds like the 0% financing for 6 months will work with trips booked through AAA. Hopefully, I will get the gift card before we leave. We do not travel to Disney often and obiously this trip would be a great opportunity to spend the $200. Sometimes these promotional gift cards are predicated on the billing cycle. That can delay or speed up the processing of the card. Many credit card companies insist that the billing cycle with the first purchase close before the consider the first purchase as actually happening. Not sure if this card operates that way or if a purchase sets the gift card process in motion by itself. We use Cit AAdvantage Card for all our purchases for the airline miles. My wife is from Argentina and a round trip off peak frequent flier flight is 60K points. We go every other year and the miles pile up when you use it for everything. But for Disney people I can see where this Disney Visa is very appealing. In general I am not a big Chase fan and the annual fee has to be subtraced from the benefits you receive to determine its worth. As with every credit card it is also only a deal if you pay off your balance each month. I know people who crow about the trips then get from points on other credit cards and then announce in another conversation that they own a fortune on their credit cards. The interest charged on a credit card totally negate the value of any points, miles or cash back you receive. Also pay the balance when you get your card or don’t charge it. The 0% deal is a good one. Other than 0% …pay it off every month.

    My husband and I signed up for and received this card this past October. We also received the $200.00 gift card offer without requesting the DVD. This card has been amazing! We pay all of our bills with it and only charge what we can pay off at the end of the month. I keep track of our spending and transfer funds to a separate account so they are ready for the monthly payment. We have taken been able to pay for 75% of our hotel costs for two separate trips using the disney points. LOVE tHIS CARD!

I was told on the phone that it would take 2 weeks to receive the credit card, then 6-8 weeks after my first purchase to receive the gift card. Does it really take 6-8 weeks after first purchase to receive the gift card or has anyone experience a much quicker response? We are leaving for Disney in 5 weeks.     Feel the $200 promotion was a scam. Called the 888 number on my letter to ask questions and told them I had made my reservations for Disney and when I was leaving. I was told to register then by phone and use the card ASAP and that I would receive my gift card within 2 weeks. I called and was told now that it would be 8 to 10 weeks and by then I will be back from Disney and will have no use for it. When I called I was told that they were not responsible for what I was told on the phone. Not happy!!!

You do have to watch where you can use the rewards card. There are only certain restaurants and stores at each park and resort that you can use the rewards.     I have been seriously considering getting this card for the great discounts and money in the parks! Our current credit card gives us 1% cash back that is applied to our balance at the end of the year – it works great for us as we use the card for most purchases and pay it off every month. We don’t have to worry about redeeming anything, it just automatically gets credited at the end of the year.
    I have one question about this Disney card… do your reward dollars expire after a period of time (for example, does it reset back to zero every January and anything you gained the previous year is lost if you don’t travel to WDW)? We are hoping to go every 2-3 years, but it’s not a guarantee that we will be able to make it that often. Could we build up several years worth of rewards before using them?? I’d hate to get the card and not really be able to use the rewards. If that’s the case, we’re better off sticking with the guaranteed 1% cash back we are getting now. Thanks for your help and tips!

      The points don’t expire for about four years as long as you keep them on the Visa. Once you transfer them to a gift card, the points expire at the end of the year following when you transfer them. For example, I had points on my Visa that I earned 2/10. They were set to expire 2/14. I transferred all of my points to a gift card to use towards our Disney trip next month. The gift card will expire 12/12.

          EXCEPT an employee at the Disney Store told me, you can then transfer the $ from your points redemption card, which allow it is a ‘gift card’ it’s treated more like a debit card, to a regular disney gift card and they won’t expire. The only difference as near as I can tell is that a) the redemption card expires in a few years and b) the redemption card will still get you a discount if you spend more than $50 I believe.

    We are charter members for the Disney Visa card, meaning we got one as soon as they were offered. Do the same thing as you where we pay it off each month and use it to pay for everything. I was so excited to find out that my son’s private school takes credit cards. More disney money for us. I would love to find the $200 offer though, because I might would then get another one in my name, because we only have one in my husband’s name. But the question I have is that since I have a card in my name, but the account is just his name, can I still get another one in my name. Just wondering if you knew.

    We got the offer for the 150 disney gc. I already had one so signed my hubby up for this one and then afterwards, got an offer for a 200 gift card! Now you can only have one account in your name and can’t sign up for another account to get the free gift card so we are out of luck! The offers are random but we do have annual passes, have signed up for the dvd, went on a disney cruise this year, etc. so our name is definitely in their date base.

        I used my card to pay my utility bills. I caledl in the payment using my card and when I was done I paid that amount on my Disney card. I bought my grocery’s and when I got home I called in a payment on my card. I got my 200. In 2-3 months. I had a friend that bought Disney gift cards at Target or Sam’s to use on her trip. I think you have to wait for the first cycle after you hit the 500 to have them process the gift card but call visa customer service on the card to ask for sure.

    After I ordered the vacation planning DVD, I received a Disney Visa offer. The offer is a $200 Disney gift card after your first charge on the card. I haven’t applied for the card yet because we’re in the process of applying for a mortgage, but once that’s finalized I’m getting my Disney Visa (and I’ve already chosen the Tinkerbell card!)
