I agree about the bulk spices. That way you only pay for what you need and don’t have a lot of extra sitting around. They need to be rotated to keep their freshness, so I buy what I can use in a 3-6 month period.

Clever idea! Spices are among the few things we are willing to spend more money on. We buy ours from Penzey’s, and while they are not cheap, they are not that expensive, either, especially since they give samples and offer coupons through their catalog. I love to sprinkle garlic on *everything*, and the Penzey’s garlic actually tastes more like fresh crushed garlic than any grocery store garlic powder I’ve ever bought. It’s so worth it.
But that is a great idea that I will keep in mind!

Ooh, that’s a great idea! At one of our local stores (Sprouts) they have bulk bins …. including bulk spice drawers! It’s just about the cuest thing ever. Each spice has a drawer, and you use a tiny scoop and pour your spices into a tiny baggie. They weigh it at checkout. It’s so fun!

My favorite grocery store here in Texas is the HEB Central Market. Unfortunately, there’s only one in Houston, and it’s about 25 minutes away from where I live.
But they have a ton of bulk items there, and you weigh them yourself, and then you can print out a little sticker with a UPC code on it to attach to the item right there from the scale. I love it!
