Here’s a fun tip from Keisha on how to make an extra serving or two out of the last little bit of snacks….
One way our family saves money is by taking all the little leftovers. You know, that half a handful of cheetos, those very few m&ms left in the bottom of a pack and we make our own snack mixes. If a sample comes in, say a small bag of pretzels, they go in to the snack mix bag, which is a gallon Ziploc bag. You would be amazed at how much a little, not enough all added together makes.

There was a recipe that appeared on the site-formerly-known-as-Recipezaar (food.com) that used Captain Crunch cereal, Chester Cheetah cheddar puff corn (I used the Cheetos puffs), pretzels, and a few other things. It made a TON (I had to mix it up in a trash bag…a biiiiiiiiiiiig trash bag), but my sister and my dad loved it. I’m hoping to do something like the M&M sweet and salty snack mix soon. We bought some on sale with a coupon, and I found it to be a disappointment. I have been known to make my son a breakfast trail mix with cereal, dried fruit, fruit snacks, and nuts. He can snack while he plays, and I don’t have to worry about milk going bad. I just toss in whatever we have on hand.

I can’t imagine ever having “leftover M&Ms” at the bottom of the bag ;-) … but this is a great tip nonetheless! I always save those little samples for car/airplane trips, but in the end, we often end up not needing them, so I like this idea more. And mixing in the cereal is genius! Thanks!

When I was a child, my mother would make a snack mix for my sister and I. She would put in raisins, cranberries, peanuts, M&M, and pretzel sticks in small baggies for us to eat.

I love the idea of this tip–so smart. But I am one of those people that is SO picky what is in my snack mix, I don’t think I could handle cheetos and m&m’s in the same bag!! But my dad always made us mix cereals (which I also hated. I always made my brothers do it!!)

We just did this the other day with pretzels, cereals, skittles and animal crackers. We pre-packaged them in baggies for school snacks. Yay!

We do this with Cereal also. We mix the last little bit of cereal (not enough for a whole bowl) in a big ziploc bag. My kids love it. It’s almost like getting a bonus box of cereal every few months !
