This tip comes from my reader Carol…
Do you buy lunch meat in the plastic tubs? Most of the deli companies are using them now and they are EXACTLY like the plastic Gladlock and Ziploc tubs that you pay good money for. In fact some of them are Glad Lock brand. Use your coupons to get the various lunch meats, then when they’re empty, peal the label off and wash them. Soon you will have a whole collection of various shapes and sizes. These are great for sending leftovers home with guests.

I have also been doing this as long as I have been buying the meat/products! I agree cant beat “red neck tupperwear” for leftovers or sending food home with people! :) I can never find the best deal with that kind of meat even with sales and coupons where we live here in Idaho..but always have the best luck shopping at GROCERY OUTLET~bargain market! :) My kids even sing the little jingle while we shop and make people laugh when they both chime in! I wish we could use coupons there..wow that would be savings! ;)

Do not ever microwave or wash in the dishwasher- the heat causes BPA and other chemicals to leech out of the plastic.

I love the Philly cooking creams containers for the lunch box. They are the perfect size for snacks.

We’ve been doing this since we first started buying them. The best thing is knowing that once the container starts looking really bad, I can toss it without guilt. I pack my lunch everyday, so we go through a lot of lunch meat. And the containers are nice to bring salad and other leftovers in when I want something different. :)
Oh, and they are also great for storing loose crayons, markers and other art supplies for my son. Since they’re clear he can see which one he wants/needs. He also made Valentine’s Day clothespin puppets for his Pre-K class and they were perfect to send to with him.

Just make sure when reusing containers that you do not microwave them. I use bleach in the rinse dishwater occasionally to assure bacteria is not an issue. Great tip for those looking for another way to save!

Great idea but you have to be careful reusing those plastic containers as well as water bottles, butter bowls, cool whip bowls, styrofoam cups etc. These are only supposed to be used so many times before bacteria begins to set up in them and can make you sick.
