Use your toaster oven to cook whenever possible. You can even take it out on the back porch if you want to avoid heating up the house during the summer. I know here in Alabama that the house is almost unbearable around 4-5 in the evening and turning the oven on makes it so much worse.

I LOVE my toaster oven! I use it every day. I cook waffles for breakfast, hot sandwiches for lunch, and casseroles or baked meat for dinner in it. I have this oven: http://www.amazon.com/Oster-TSSTTVMNDG-Digital-Capacity-Stainless/dp/B003Z34OME/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1316910412&sr=8-1 and it will hold a 9 X13 pan (with no handles). I rarely use my big oven. It cooks faster and my kitchen doesn’t get hot! This is a great time/money saver!

I love toaster ovens!! they are so much better for smaller foods that don’t require the full oven. I’ve cooked many frozen foods as well as made toast and bagels with toppings melted right onto them (like pizza bagels!). My boyfriend prefers the toaster oven over the microwave whenever possible, so a lot of microwaving that isn’t tv dinners and veggie steambags can go in there too on the right setting.
On another note, I love this blog and all the hard work that goes into it, but I do have a little request (or maybe I just somehow missed a link somewhere). I would love to be able to go to a list of all these “Let’s save some money…” posts. It would be helpful to me because these are some of my favorite posts since I am young and have no kids and don’t live with my boyfriend right now, so these tips help save me a lot without buying stuff I don’t need and stretching what I have even further. Thanks Kristen! =)

Phyl, if you look at the title of the post just underneath it say “in Lets save some money”, or under the actual post that’s in the blue box there’s another paragraph. Look for the green link that says “Let’s Save Some Money posts.”
Also on the right hand side of the blog, if you scroll down there’s a drop down menu of categories, you’ll find it there in alphabetical order.
I’ve had the same problem, but with all the great info Kristin posts, it’s understandable!

We grill a lot over the summer and I picked up a ‘mini-oven’ – it’s kind of like a toaster on steroids with an extra pizza drawer. We do all our toast and pizza in the drawer (if we’re not grilling the pizza that is…), and use the main oven for other things that don’t require a full oven – like chicken nuggets, etc…

We BBQ a lot for that reason. Have you ever had frozen pizza from the grill? YUM! We also utilize the grill for a lot of the fresh fruit we are so lucky to have (we live in farm country with LOTS of roadside stands). Grilled peaches…..also YUM!

Please tell me how. Do you thaw it, about how long does it take, do you close the lid? Any info would be great!
