Always look inside your newspapers before you buy them to make sure they contain the inserts. Insert theft is on the rise and I don’t want you to be a victim.
Check out this email I received from Beth…
I live in an area where we get ALL of the good coupons. I used to buy from Walmart, but I started finding papers missing inserts and stuff flung all over the paper rack. Obviously someone was paging through them. I am outraged and a bit hurt that someone would steal the coupons I am paying for.
If you are new to Couponing, you might want to take a moment to read more in my Getting Started Couponing series. It will teach you how to coupon like I do!

This has happened to me numerous times in many locations (convenient stores, newspaper boxes, Walmart, etc) So I always check them now. I can’t imagine being accused of stealing coupons, but Walmart has accused me of coupon fraud before they wised up and started being more coupon friendly. I won’t ever go back to that particular Walmart now. I don’t get why people won’t pay the $1 or $2 for a paper when it’s going to be saving them so much more than that anyway. Sad!!

My boss’ wife went to Walmart last week and when she opened the papers to see if they had the coupons in them and when she realized she didn’t she left them there and went about her other shopping. She got stopped by a manager of the store and told her that they caught her stealing the coupons and they had her on video. She indicated she didn’t steal them but was merely seeing if the papers had the inserts. When they threated to call the police she told them to go ahead and do so because she didn’t steal them. Needless to say, they let her leave but she was so upset about it. Her husband called the store and talked to the Store manager who appologized about the situation and said they have had a lot of people stealing coupons and they are considering keeping them behind the customer service counter instead of out in the open because it is a lot of theft, particulary because they are close by the doors and people can come in, take the coupons and leave. I think all of the stores are a little hyper sensitive about it.

Extreme Couponing has actually shown a woman in a past episode STEALING someone’s paper off of their front step, which I thought was pretty inappropriate. I would be pretty upset if someone took my paper off my step. But, I have almost bought papers at walmart before, but I noticed that ALL of the inserts were missing. So, I found another one. It is really sad how few honest people there are out there now.

I have noticed that since the show Extreme Couponing came out that our Kroger now keeps the Sunday paper in carts between the self check out registers where there is someone to monitor them. Sad that they have to do this but it has stopped this problem.

In Columbus , GA, I used to buy newspaper from CVS but it was missing the inserts so now I check the papers for inserts or buy early morning from publix , I pick up the paper not from the top but take it from in between the stack.

It is getting bad in PA where I live too – the dollar store manager by our house keeps a sign on the newspaper rack “ask at register” – works GREAT now – i get full papers all the time – and sometimes (since they are stuffed by machine) i get extra inserts !! (nice surprise) but before they kept them behind the counter it wasn’t worth going to get the cheaper papers – they were always missing inserts

I live in Florida were we are “lucky” to get a weekly free publication that has the same coupons as the sinday paper, yes it is free but unfortunatelly there is a lady that will follow the van that delieves the newspapers and steals ALL of them (Yes it is stealing) all trough town, That is plain greedy.and rude. Well!!!!! I do believe in Karma so what goes around comes around.

Here in Pa, after buying 5 newspapers without inserts, I’ve had to start checking them. It’s sad and outrageous to think that people won’t take an extra paper out of a machine but will take other people’s inserts.
