Did you know that your library card grants you access to FREE movies? That’s right! Check out your local library next time you want to rent a movie. Not only is it FREE but you can keep it for a week or longer (depending on your library) and if by chance you are late returning it, their late fees are MUCH lower than the video store or Redbox! And if you didn’t like the movie, you won’t feel bad about paying money for it because it was FREE!

At our libraries, it costs $1 to rent a movie for a week. Much better than any other way, though! One quick tip: I go on the walmart website and look at the pre-orders and make a list of all the movies that are coming out soon. I then go online to the library website and see if they’ve ordered those movies. They’re listed in the system as “on order”. I make a list of all of them in the library’s system and take it to a librarian at the circulation desk and have them put them on hold for me. If a movie/book is already available, I can put it on hold but they have to put “on order” items on hold. The movies usually make it to the library within a day or two of release and, if I’ve put it on hold early enough, I get it that same week!

Our library stsem has Wii & DS games, too. We get to keep them for two weeks. It’s awesome!

My local library charges $1 to check out a movie for 7 days. Still a good deal. CDs are free though.

We do this all the time. I kick myself now for all the money I have spent on buying dvds when we can rent them for free. We go every couple of weeks and get a bunch of movies. We can only keep them a week but you can go online to renew them another week. The kids LOVE all the choices. We too have had a lot of trouble with them skipping. It is frustrating but still worth it!

I always get my movies from the library! My library has a section called “2 day Quickies” (I personally think that is a dumb name for it! :) ) They have all the latest released DVD’s and you can only check them out for 2 days, so every one has a chance to watch them.

It saves money, but we’ve had a lot of frustration borrowing movies from the library. Many of them have been so scratched that they won’t even play, especially the kids’ movies. My kids get excited about watching something and then wonder why Mom can’t magically fix it. I always check the DVD carefully before borrowing it, but even then we’ve had some bad DVDs.
Jill says
I agree! I have had a lot of kids movies that skips a lot.

Vikki and Jill-
Take a good amount of toothpaste, put it on your finger and rub it onto the back of the DVD in small circles until it is all covered. Rinse it off with water and then dry it with a t-shirt, etc. I’m not sure how or why it works, but I do it all of the time!!! Works like magic!
