Here’s a fun tip from reader Jaymi:
I am terrible when I have cash. Before I know it I have spent it all. So I started a game. When I have $1 bills I look at the serial number. If it starts with a “D”, “C”, “J” or “B” (the initials of my family) then I save it. The goal being this is how I will pay for Christmas. I started in late Jan. this year and have already saved close to $200!!!
What a fun way to save!

Thankyou for the idea I have started doing this idea this week and so far have already saved 15 dollars. My temptation is just seeing it all in the jar so I have to count it and then I always spend it so I decided to put it in a black canister that I was no longer using and havent even had the urge.

We do the $5 Savings Plan (found here: http://pinterest.com/pin/107593878567953321/) to save for our vacations. Right now my daughter (age 12) is REALLY pushing for a Disney World trip, so that’s likely what this will go towards.

cute, cute cute! Love the creativeness of this. I am using surveys, change, and gift cards, rebates for Christmas this year. Its fun to start a challenge and work at completing it. Next year, I may try this! Or even save all the ones with their initials and give them to each of the family members as a gift for Christmas.

We recently opened up a second checkung and saving account at a different bank and they have an awesome saving account program where every time you swipe your debit card they transfer $1 from the checking to the savings. We just started using it so we only have $4 in it, but if you think about it, its pretty awesome.

I save the gold dollar pieces and $2 bills. I also never spend any loose change. All change goes into a jar. At Christmas we roll it and that’s our gift money. One year I saved almost $1000 just in loose change!!

Everything I earn from surveys is going into my Christmas fund. That’s how most of Christmas got paid for last year!

I never spend a five dollar bill. I have a special envelope in my bag and the minute I get one, it goes in there. I empty it out at home once a week (so I am not tempted to spend them when I am low on cash) and every time I accumulate $100 it goes into the bank. It is amazing how quickly it adds up. Plus, I hardly even notice the “missing” cash.
