Reader Amanda shared this great tip on refilling Swiffer WetJet Bottles:
My money saving tip is to quit buying expensive Swiffer wet mop refills and refill the bottle yourself! Just hold the rubber top in boiling water for about 5 minutes, then twist it off. You only have to do this once, and then you can refill it with whatever CHEAP cleaner you get couponing! The Swiffer refills run about $5 a bottle, by using concentrated Lysol cleaner, it’s just PENNIES to refill!
Don’t forget, I’m always looking for your best money saving tip, so please share!

My boyfriend cut out the bottom of the refill (it would be the top of the bottle when in use), and he cut the top portion of a powerade bottle (where you would drink from) and then used gorilla glue to put them together. so all I have to do is literally take the top off the powerade bottle to refill with what ever chemical

i have been doing this with my swiffer wetjet since last year.it was my husband’s idea!(he is totally on board with saving money)the only thing different is, he unscrewed the top with pliers.he then filled it with water, leaving enough room for your cleaner and 1/4 cup Mr.clean gain we have only used 1 full bottle so far!
(make sure you put the water in first OR you will get lots of bubbles.
i bought the wetjet STARTER kit @ Kroger last year for $4.99. Kroger had them for $9.99 and i had a $5 off a starter kit coupon.

Perfect timing! I was just about to thow out a Swiffer bottle the other day when I stopped myself and made a mental note to look at how they can be refilled. Thanks for saving me that research time!

I like the newer Rubbermaid mop for the same reason, it has a cloth washable pad and an empty container that you can put whatever you want in. It sprays like a swiffer, but never have to buy refills. It also saves paper waste.

Wow people are so resourcefull. I would have never thought of putting it in boiling water for 5 minutes to unscrew the top.
