Here are the top 6 ways to surprise your kids with a Disney trip:
1. Drive to Florida and tell the kids that you are going to the beach. If they aren’t old enough to read or they aren’t very observant, they won’t know where they are really going until they drive under the welcome arch. We did this to our kids on their first trip when they were just turning 5 and 2.
2. Wrap up a big box and when they open it, have a Mickey balloon float up with a sign that says “You’re Going to Disney World Today!” or it could be an invitation from Mickey to come join him at Disney World. We did this when they were 6 and 3.
3. Don’t tell your kids until you arrive at the airport. Tell them that one of the parents are having to go on a solo trip somewhere and y’all are going to the airport to see them off. When you arrive, surprise them with new Disney shirts and hats and tell them their stuff is in the back and it’s time to go! We did this when they were 8 and 5.
4. Wrap up Disney items and give it as a gift for Christmas or their birthday. When they unwrap it, tell them that they are leaving for Disney World in so many days. We did this when our kids were 9 and 6.
5. During a photo session, hand your child their MagicBands and tell them that they are going to Disney World. Let a photographer capture the excitement for you!
6. Set up a scavenger hunt in the house. Once they follow all the clues, have a plush Mickey Mouse waiting in the final spot with a sign that says “You are going to Disney World!”

We went to Disney for my daughter’s 8th birthday. At that time, she was fascinated by fortune cookies. At her b-day party, two days before the trip, one of her gifts was a giant fortune cookie. (Think ‘fortune cookie the size of your head’.) The fortune inside said, “Pack your bags, [name]. You’re going to Disney World for your birthday!”

We are going in August. My daughter thinks we are just going to go visit my parents, who live in Cocoa Beach. We are going to head down to the Magical Express area as I tell her we have to go find Papa, and I will pull out her Magic Band as we get to the bus area and ask her if she wants to head to Disney World instead. I can’t wait! To be fair, my parents will join us for the last part of the stay and then we will stay with them for another week…..so I’m not lying to her :)
