As part of my efforts to grow my fund, I’ve been writing to a few different companies each week. I’ve given my honest, (hopefully) helpful feedback and the responses have run the gamut. I’ve gotten high value coupons and I’ve gotten enthusiastic emails. In a few cases, both.
These coupons can save you money, which in turn can boost your fund. All the coupons I received will save me money in a budgeted category where the overflow goes directly to the Disney Fund. This is an easy way to grow the fund: it cost nothing except the time it takes to send an email.
Here are some companies I have written to, and their responses.
Companies that sent me very nice emails, and nothing else:
- Abreva
- AW Rootbear/Dr Pepper
- Alexia Foods
- Air Wick
- Act II Popcorn
- A1Kraft
Companies I have not heard back from (yet!):
- Dove
- Flinstones
- Aleve
Companies who sent an enthusiastic email informing me of my addition to their birthday club:
- Aidells
Companies I received emails, letters, and COUPONS from:
- ALL Detergent ($3!)
- Airheads (3)
- All Natural Al Fresco (2)
If you’d like to write along, we here at Couponing to Disney have compiled a master list of all the companies we have contacted. Remember, you are not soliciting coupons or rewards. Rather, you ar reaching out to tell a company when their product makes your life easier, provides a solution to a problem, or is well loved by a family member. Many companies will show their appreciation for your feedback by sending coupons, but not all will.
Here are some quick tips if you plan on writing to your favorite companies:
Don’t write the same companies at the same time. When you’re making your choice, choose organizations with different parent companies.
Write something specific and personal. Mention the specific times and circumstances you use the product.
Be polite. Thank them for making a product you enjoy, and for taking the time to read your letter.
Register concerns responsibly. Companies will often launch internal investigations if there is a problem, so choose your words wisely. Communicate politely and have the packaging information handy.
Make sure to keep checking back for FUNDamentals: Writing to Companies Updates so you can follow along with my progress. Are you going to jump on the writing to companies bandwagon? Which companies do you think you’ll start with?
