Have you ever considered completing a runDisney race at Disney World? Here are 10 things to know beforehand.
Register
Register early to guarantee your spot, as these popular events can sell out. Guests will receive a confirmation email letting them know they are registered, also check on your runDisney profile to confirm your registration. Read this List of runDisney events throughout the year.
Costumes
Those who participate in runDisney races are allowed to wear costumes. This is a fun way to dress up as your favorite Disney Princess, or to match your races theme. Therefore, try to pick a race theme you like. Do keep in mind, costumes cannot raise any safety issues or be offensive. Disney holds the right to request you to change or be removed. Think tutus and embellished shirts for an easy DIY.
Headphones
Runners are allowed to wear headphones while running, however Disney does not recommend it. This is because of the audio messages played during the race, for safety, that you wouldn’t hear with headphones on.
Weather
RunDisney events happen in rain or shine. However, lightning will cause Disney World to delay races or cancel the event as determined by Walt Disney World Resort Management. Do keep in mind, entry fees are non-refundable.
Training
Download Jeff Galloway’s free training program by race category from the runDisney website. This is a highly recommended training program for runDisney events. Here are tips for Training for Your runDisney Race in the Summer.
Park Tickets
A theme park ticket is not needed to run a runDisney race, however your RunDisney registration does not include entry into the park before or after the race. To do this, a separate theme park ticket would be necessary.
Stay On-Site
For those participating in a runDisney event, should consider staying at a host hotel. This includes all Disney World Resorts, Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels and Shades of Green. Staying on-site at once of these options has the added benefit of included event transportation.
Bib
Each runner receives a personalized bib that includes your first name & race number. To pick up your bib, Download and complete your personalized race waiver online. This is available about 2 weeks prior to your event. Then, bring a Valid ID to retrieve your race bib, only you can pick up your race bib during Expo hours.
Pace
Every runDisney race has a 16 minute-per-mile pace requirement, making it walker friendly. Disney suggests training for a 15 minute-per-mile pace to ensure time for photo, restroom and other delays. Time begins when you cross the start line. Anything not able to maintain the minimum required pace will be given a ride to the Family Reunion Area at any point during the course.
Once completed, finisher certificates can be found here. This makes for a great memento. Print your certificate and proudly display!
