1. Did you know Walt Disney Personally Worked On Country Bear Jamboree?
Walt Disney personally helped make Country Bear Jamboree come to life, in fact it is one of the very last attractions he personally worked on. The show was originally thought up for a ski resort in Mineral King, California but was never used or built. Instead the show received a home at Magic Kingdom in 1971.
2. Do you know what the first Audio-Animatronics show was?
Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room was the first Audio-Animatronics show, it debuted at Disneyland Park in 1963. This was groundbreaking technology for the times. Since then, many attractions have adopted this technology such as it’s a small world and Pirates of the Caribbean.
3. Do you know which attraction had the first human Audio-Animatronics?
The Hall of Presidents was thought up by Walt Disney. However, the original idea for wax figures in the show was not realistic enough for Walt Disney. Therefore, Disney and a team of his Imagineers came up with the first hum Audio-Animatronic figures for The Hall of Presidents.
Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln debuted at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, using the new technology. In 1971 Abraham Lincoln joined the show, along with every President in history.
4. Do you know an attraction that has been recreated at Disney Resorts Worldwide?
It’s a small world is a classic Disney World attraction, and was an opening day attraction at Magic Kingdom. The attraction was originally created for the 1964-1965 New York World’s Fair. Walt Disney himself oversaw the project. The attraction did very well at the fair (for 2 seasons) before opening at Disneyland park in 1966. The attraction became so popular that it has been recreated at every Disney Resort Worldwide. No matter which Disney park you visit, guests will find a version of it’s a small world.
5. Do you know which attraction was NASA approved?
Space Mountain, which opened at Magic Kingdom in 1975, had help from a NASA astronaut. Walt Disney had the idea in the 1960s but needed to wait for technology to catch up. Years later when the attraction was approved it was overseen by Mercury 9 and Gemini 5 astronaut Gordon Cooper. His expertise ensured the attraction felt like a space flight and had accurate information from NASA’s early space missions. Take flight knowing it is NASA astronaut approved.
