Anyone who has visited Disney World can attest to the fact it is HUGE. Walking 10 miles a day is not uncommon, and still not see it all. However, just how big is Walt Disney World? 1. Walt Disney World
Just how big is Walt Disney World property? It comes in at 30,000 acres. For comparison, Disneyland Resort covers just over 400 acres. Disneyland Resort may have been the first, however it can never compete with the size of Disney World. In fact, Disney World Resort owns the most land out of Disney parks worldwide.
2. Spaceship Earth
Did you know Spaceship Earth is the largest free-standing sphere in the world?? This geodesic sphere measures 165 ft in diameter and 180 ft in height. That makes it 18 stories tall. It weighs an incredible 16 million pounds! Ride the attraction inside and you can say you’ve been inside the largest free-standing sphere in the world!
3. Animal Kingdom
A little known fact is that Animal Kingdom is actually the largest park at Disney World, covering over 500 acres. Many feel it is Magic Kingdom, even though it contains more attractions, it only spans just over 100 acres. A big contributor to the Animal Kingdom park number is the sheer size of Kilimanjaro Safaris, which spans 100 acres alone! Animal Kingdom is actually 5 times bigger than Magic Kingdom and Magic Kingdom roughly the same-size as Kilimanjaro Safaris!
4. The Seas Pavilion
Another larger than life number at Epcot is found within The Seas Pavilion. Inside is a saltwater aquarium, at the time of its opening it was the largest in the world (Atlanta Aquarium now holds that title). The Seas Pavilion saltwater aquarium is now the 2nd largest worldwide at over 5 million gallons – 5,700,000 to be exact!
5. Cinderella’s Castle
Just how tall is Cinderella’s Castle? She stands at 189 feet, and uses forced perspective to seem even more majestic. Cinderella’s Castle at Disney World is an incredible 100 feet taller than Sleeping Beauty’s Castle at Disneyland Resort.
6. Resort Rooms
Have you ever wondered how many Resort rooms Disney World has on property? The number is over 30,000 hotel rooms, between over 35 Resorts. There are also over 3,000 DVC units. Plus, 409 cabins + 799 campsites (at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground) on property.
7. Cast Members
It takes many employees, named Cast Members, to achieve daily magic at the happiest place on Earth. In fact, Disney World resort is the largest single-site employer in the United States with nearly 70,000 Cast Members!
8. The Land Pavilion
The Land Pavilion in Epcot grows fruits and vegetables that are actually served throughout Disney World in select restaurants. The greenhouses produce more than 30 tons of fruit and veggies a year! Ride the attraction Living with the Land to see for yourself.
9. Stormalong Bay
Another world record held by Disney World is found at Disney’s Beach Club Resort. Stormalong Bay, the swimming area of Beach Club Resort, is the largest sand-bottom pool in the world. The pool holds 750,000 gallons of water.
10. Disney Value Resorts
The Value Resorts at Disney World host larger than life icons throughout the properties. For instance, the tennis ball cans (Center court) at Disney’s All Star Sports Resort could hold 9.5 million tennis balls! At Pop Century Resort, find a larger than life Big Wheel (1970’s courtyard). Read the sticker near the big wheel and you will find the recommended child weight is up to 877 pounds!
