Deciding what to wear to the parks for the day can be extremely challenging. Here are 5 mistakes not to make when dressing for Disney:
1. Assuming new shoes equal good shoes – NEVER wear brand new shoes to the theme parks. You want to spend at least 6 weeks – 2 months walking in the shoes you plan to wear in the parks. The average Guest walks 12 miles a day. That is a lot of walking in new shoes and new shoes make your feet more prone to blisters.
2. Assuming morning temperatures indicate the afternoons – Just because there is a chill in the air in the morning does not mean it will be there come afternoon. You don’t want to wear warm clothes just to want to shed them when the sun gets high. Check out Weather.com’s hourly forecast. Light layers that can easily be removed are the best bet.
3. Dressing for cuteness instead of comfort – Disney is a very active, physical vacation. All of the constant walking mixed with the Florida heat can really take it’s toll on your body. Wear something that you are going to be comfortable in all day. Comfort trumps cuteness at Disney. You can always pick one day during your vacation to take a midday break at your resort. Dress up cute and head back to the park for the evening and take a bunch of family pictures.
4. Thinking your kids will want to be dressed up all day – While princess dresses are adorable, they are not practical for an entire day in the parks. Let your kids wear their clothing to meals or for a few hours in the morning but make sure you pack a change of clothes for them. They will appreciate it and you’ll appreciate not having to listen to them whine that their outfit itches.
5. Assuming you like the chill in the air – If you have to wait outside for a while for the park to open, a parade to start or the nightly fireworks to begin, you will not like the chill in the air. Pack a light jacket to help ward off the chill.

How often do you shake your head at people walking around Disney and wonder “what were you thinking?” High heels, cowboy boots (or any high leather boots, for that matter in 90+ degree weather), just generally any uncomfortable footwear! People! You are going to walk probably 10 miles today. Be kind to your feet!

For some people thise shoes are the most comfortable to them. I have met many people who prefer to wear heels instead of sneakers because to them they are more comfortable. I would also assume that wearing cowboy boots is more comfortable for some as well. Also, if you live in FL the 90 degree heat is nothing. I personally wear jeans and sweaters when it is 90 degrees because I get cold a lot faster than when I lived in PA.

Cowboy boots, properly broken in, are MUCH more comfortable than sneakers. They provide support and cushion. And if you wear cowboy boots every day, a little extra heat won’t phase you. :)
