It isn’t possible to see and do everything in the Magic Kingdom. Here are 5 things to skip in Magic Kingdom.
- Stitch’s Great Escape – This is seriously the worst attraction at Walt Disney World. They lock you in your seats with over the head restraints and at one point all the lights go out and Stitch ‘bounces’ around the room. Those restraints pushing down on your shoulders is not a good feeling. This attraction is currently closed, however it has not been officially permanently announced closed.
- Astro Orbiter – Located on top of Tomorrowland, this attraction closely resembles Dumbo and Aladdin’s Magic Carpets in style. The only negative is it is extremely slow loading and you have to take a full elevator up to board the ride.
- Meeting Pluto – You can find Pluto at the flagpole when you enter the Magic Kingdom. Because he is one of the first meet and greet Guests see, his line quickly backs up. It is also out in the beating sun and can get hot very quickly. I recommend you meet Pluto at Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios or one of the character meals instead.
- Swiss Family Treehouse – With almost 200 steps both up and down, this treehouse is hard on the legs and the knees. Avoid making your legs extra tired by skipping this attraction.
- Tom Sawyer Island – Unless running around on an island after your kids is your idea of fun, skip this attraction unless you have some time to kill in the afternoon. The wait to get on and off the island can be up to 45 minutes. Not worth it!
I’ve done everything on the above list and it is all based on my personal opinion. Of course you should experience everything if you want. But if you are short on time, these are the attractions I would skip.

I’ve never seen Tom Sawyer but I like to eat my lunch over there. They have picnic tables and shade and space for my kids to explore.

I’m a Florida Resident and I’ve been a Disney Passholder for 4 years and agree with this list. The only other item I’d add to this list is the Tomorrowland Speedway – totally not worth it and the line can get long.

That’s my 5 year old’s favorite ride. It is quite boring but he likes that he gets to drive.

Agree 100% with this list, which is very rare! I love reading your posts as they are so quick & efficient. We have been to Disney many times and I still find your recommendations helpful. Thank you!

I loved the tree house but I grew up watching the movie and fell. In love with it then. My boss who is 30years younger loves it too.

I love the treehouse too for sentimental reasons. I first went though it when I was 6 and watched the movie as a kid. I couldn’t skip it. Too much nostalgia!

My kids love Stitch, but I agree with everything you said. Thankfully, my husband will take them and I can take a stroll around the parks. Question about Tom Sawyer Island – if there’s no line, how long is the actually boat ride to the island? Thanks!

From what I remember, you stand up on a “raft” and you get there rather quickly. I haven’t been in a while though.

Yes, maybe 5 minutes to load and ride over. We’ve never waited in line more than 5-10 minutes either. Our kids love exploring the island and going across the cool bridge.

For us, especially my 13yr old daughter, Stich’s Great Escape is a must do! It’s also a great place to go to get out of the heat for a bit. Always very very cool in there. Another great place to go is Tom Sawyer’s Island. Not many people go to it, we find. It’s a quiet place to go to for a break and to sit in the shade for a while. When the kids were younger, it was a nice place to go instead of one of the common places to bring your kids for a rest. They run around playing with the parents being able to take a breather. Great resting place.

Totally agree, Stitch & Tom Sawyer Island are both must do attractions. The Island is the perfect place to take a break from the lines & crowds without leaving the park. We always pack a lunch & eat on the Island.
