I am so upset. And mad. And frustrated. Annoyed. Hurting. In pain. Heartbroken. Overwhelmed. Upset. And maybe a little dramatic.
I broke my ankle. On my driving foot. My good foot. My strongest foot. I really can’t believe it. I have never broken a bone before in my life. My parents have never broken a bone. Neither have my siblings. Or my children. Or my husband. And now I have. And the kicker is that we were just talking at the dinner table a few minutes before this happened with our good friends about broken bones and I had the audacity to ‘brag’ about not breaking anything before.
Then when we were leaving the restaurant, the parking lot was not well lit. I stepped off the curb and it was a drainage ditch curb. My foot slipped, popped and I went down. I kept it elevated all night and iced it off and on. This morning it was no better so I had to go to the urgent clinic. They did an x-ray and sure enough, I broke it.
Now I didn’t break it too bad. Apparently a small piece of the bone broke off and it will eventually reattach itself. But I am in a cast for at least 6 weeks. I have to go to the orthopedic to be fitted with a permanent cast sometime this week.
So we can’t go to Disney everyday. I can’t even hardly get to the bathroom. Sigh. Keep me in your thoughts and prayers please!
We will decide in 6 weeks if we should just pick up with going to everyday where we were at or if we should start over. We really have enjoyed going and it is a lot of fun. I feel so lost today not going.
Sigh.
Thanks for reading my rant. I am just in such disbelief over this.

ugh… I’m sorry. that really sucks. I broke my right ankle years ago and it was horrible… the pain really didn’t hit until a few days later after I broke it when the bones were healing. Crutches were not my friend. I was in a cast for 8 weeks. Oh and do physical therapy after the cast comes off so you won’t have pain years down the road.
Can’t they give you a walking cast? or better yet, rent a scooter – you might not be able to ride anything (no casts allowed on some rides), but you’ll at least be able to enjoy being at Disney.
Here’s to a speedy recovery!!!

On a star that you get better really soon saying prayers for a speedy recovery you’re making my dream true by going to Disney every day so please don’t give up love looking forward to your comment every day

Oh no! Hope you have a speedy recovery!
Maybe all of us AP holders in the area should band together and be your drivers to Disney, so you can continue your quest. Seriously, it could be fun! We have enjoyed following your everyday at Disney posts.
You could always use this as a chance to experience Disney from the disability side (once you feel up to it). It’s a challenge getting around with a wheelchair and not all rides are accessible, for example the people mover in MK.
Diane says
Oh wow not good at all! So sorry! Hope You Have a Speedy Recovery!!!

Kristin, I’m so sorry to hear this news. I hope you will be okay. Prayers being sent your way for a healthy recovery. Please follow doctors orders to make sure your ankle heals properly. Before you know it, you will be back to your daily Disney visits. But for right now, please take care of yourself.
And one more thing – this is just a thought but when my sister hurt her ankle, she was able to get one of those scooters that you kneel on with one knee and then wheel yourself around. She used it at work and home. It was small and compact enough to give her mobility versus a big bulk wheel chair. So just something to think about for you when you are ready for it. Take care.

Hope it heals quickly! On the upside it may give you a different perspective of Disney and the services available for the elderly or handicapped. We are considering renting a motorized wheelchair for my in laws when they go with us in March. I remember as a child going with my uncle to Disney who was wheelchair bound. There were very few rides he could go on back then. Disney is thankfully now more considerate of the issues faced and seems to work well for most visitors.

I know exactly how you feel and I do feel for you. I stepped off my front porch and broke and shattered my ankle and cracked up my shin bone. I had a 3 and a half hour long surgery putting my ankle back together and then very long recovery. Standing on my ankle too long causes severe pain. I do wish the best for you and can not wait for the Disney daily to start back up. Take it easy and let yourself heal!

Hope it heals well! We are actually at the end of this injury with my teenage son. Broke it before Christmas and had to have surgery. He is finally in a boot and almost off crutches. Hang in there and keep your spirits up!

Praying for you! Praying for quick healing so you can get back to the journey! Just thing of this as a way to get other things done. You are doing a great job! I can’t wait to go back, Lord willing in 2018! You help me with my Disney fix, everyday I read your blog! Never give up!

Prayers for quick healing and no pain!

Maybe at least 1 day you could rent an ECV. I’m sure some of your readers have to use an ECV to get around at the parks (I know I do). It’s a different experience than when you have full mobility. It would give you a whole new perspective on what disabled vacationers go through!
Hope you heal fast and feel better soon!

Yep! July 28th. So much for summer. Doc said 3-6 months and I thought he was joking. Nope! 2 weeks before it could be casted. 5 weeks in a cast, another 5 weeks in a boot with no weight bearing. 6 weeks in ankle brace. I broke it in 2 spots. The big bone on the outside which I heard snap when I fell and a piece that chipped off on the inside. No surgery thank goodness but the inside of my ankle is real tender and can’t lay my leg on that side. It was also my driving foot. My husband learned to do a lot during those weeks lol. Now I’m waiting on a knee replacement. I rolled around the house on one of those walkers with the seats (even though you aren’t supposed to). Good luck.

Oh, bummer! I’ve been enjoying this series. Prayers for a fast healing and a little pixie dust.

If you need a boot, they were cheaper with Amazon Prime that at Jewitt Orthopedic ( the nurse actually pointed this out to us last year when dd tore the cartilage in her ankle. Pineapple helps in healing too. Sorry you had to change your Daily Disney plans.

Prayers for fast healing! Its really amazing how things like that can happen! I went to get the newspaper one morning and slipped off the steps and broke my elbow so I know how painful and frustrating can be.
