This review comes from my reader Megan…
* Why did you choose this resort?
We chose it because we were traveling with our oldest son and wanted
the option of being able to walk to and from the Magic Kingdom. We
figured it would be the best place to stay to make quick exits if he
was having a meltdown. We also liked being on the monorail for access
to the other resorts and Epcot.* What were the resort rooms like? Were they big enough for your
family? Did you find them to be acceptable?
The rooms seemed to be much more spacious than some of the moderates
we had stayed in previously. We had two queen-sized beds, but they
also have rooms with one king-size bed also. We were fortunate enough
to have a Magic Kingdom view room with a balcony which was wonderful
for our son to watch the fireworks that happened a little bit after
his normal bedtime, making them that much more of a special treat. All
rooms have a small, in-room refrigerator, safe, coffee maker (with
coffee), iron and ironing board, hair dryer, high-speed internet
access (not wireless), and a flat-screen tv. We were able to connect
our portable DVD player to the tv with cords we brought from home.
There are also coin-operated laundry facilities on site near the
Garden rooms. We stayed in a Tower room and this was a little bit of
a pain, but nothing major.* What were the amenities of the resort like? What was your favorite one?
The amenities at this resort are more than adequate. The pool is fun
for adults and kids; there are tennis courts that didn’t seem to be
used much, basketball court, and a sand volleyball court. The fitness
center was a little small, but fine for the amount of guests that seem
to use it. I never had to wait for a machine so it was fine. There
is also a marina where you can rent different size boats and arrange
for parasailing, tubing, water skiing and such.* What was the food court like? Any favorite foods?
There is almost never a line at the quick-service restaurant, Contempo
Cafe and it offers a variety of food and the service was really good
when we were there. Chef Mickey’s is hard to get into, but if you do
have a priority seating it is great for an early morning breakfast
because you don’t have to worry about transportation! The food is ok
there; it’s another breakfast buffet similar to the other ones on
property. There is also a snack bar called Sand Bar near the pool and
you can refill your mugs there while at the pool. The Wave is on the
first floor and we didn’t eat there, but watched some football at the
bar and had a snack. The bartenders were very friendly and the
service was great. The California Grill is at the top of the
Contemporary and is wonderful. We have eaten at this restaurant
several times and would highly recommend it.* How were the resort buses? What was your walk to the bus stop
like? How were the resorts bus stops at the parks? How far was the
walk to the gates? How crowded were the buses at any given time?
The bus leaves from a stop near the front lobby so it is very easy to
get to from the Tower rooms. It shares a stop with Bay Lake Towers,
but the buses did not seem to be too crowded at any time. The buses
take you to Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Disney Springs,
Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. The monorail takes you to Epcot
and the Magic Kingdom. To get to Epcot you have to transfer monorails
at the Ticket & Transportation Center. The Polynesian and Grand
Floridian Resorts are also accessible using the monorail.* Would you stay at this resort again? If not, please provide a reason.
Not until our kids are a little older. We have two toddlers and like
the amenities of a Villa. When they are older, not taking naps and
are able to drink out of normal cups all of the time, we will consider
it again because the location just can’t be beat. I never thought I
would like this resort, to me it was cold and ugly, but the location
is great and that makes up for any physical attributes I think it is
lacking.
Alternative Resort: Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Why did you choose this resort? We actually bought into the DVC wing of comtemporary- Bay Lake.
What were the resort rooms like? Were they big enough for your family? Did you find them to be acceptable? We have stayed in the studio and it is quite spacious for the two of us. We have a bed, a fold out couch, tv etc. The mini kitchen is fantastic. This is one of my favorite parts of the room. Slide out cupboard, good counter space etc. Fun and sleek.
What were the amenities of the resort like? What was your favorite one? I love the decor of the resort which is a huge change from our other fav- the Wilderness. We love Top of the World Bar. We love the DVC pool.
What was the food court like? Any favorite foods? The food court is neat- you order via computer, pay and pick up. Good fast service stuff. The standard sandwiches and burgers. Breakfast is nice there too.
How were the resort buses? What was your walk to the bus stop like? How were the resorts bus stops at the parks? How far was the walk to the gates? How crowded were the buses at any given time? Busses weren’t too crowded or to slow. We only bussed to Downtown, Animal kKngdom or Hollywood. Took the monorail to Epcot and Magic Kingdom and even walked to Magic.
Would you stay at this resort again? If not, please provide a reason. I absolutely would stay there again!

Why did you choose this resort?
Back in 2009 we took our then 4 year old to Disney for her 5th birthday. It was our 1st Disney experience. We originally had reservations at Animal Kingdom Lodge which was amazing but after the 3rd day (my daughter’s birthday) of our vacation we realized that waiting for a bus in the hot weather with a little one was not that much fun! My husband called up Contemporary Resort (which has the monorail) to see if they had any rooms available. They did and said we could transfer. I said to my husband that I wanted to check the place out before we left Animal Kingdom. So we hopped on the bus at Animal Kingdom Resort at 10:00 pm and rode the bus to Contemporary. We walked into the lobby and it was so different from the lobby at Animal Kingdom. It definitely didn’t have the wow factor of Animal Kingdom’s Lobby but it was very bright & spacious! We went to the desk and my husband spoke to the manager. He explained that we wanted to transfer resorts and why. The manager understood and said there were only 2 rooms available A castle view room and a lake view room. Both rooms were the same just the castle view faced the castle. We already knew the castle view rooms were way out of our price range but when my daughter heard castle view room was available she wanted to see that one first. We wanted to see it as well since we figured that would be the only chance we would ever have to be in a room with a castle view. By now it was 11:30 pm and we went back to the desk to discuss the price of the transfer. We mentioned that we would love the castle view but when he showed us the price we said we just couldn’t do it. The manager said wait one second and disappeared into back office. When he came back out he said we know how much you & your daughter loved the castle view room and today is her birthday so we are going to give you the castle view room as a free upgrade if you transfer here! We were beyond thrilled!! My husband and I teared up watching our daughter jump up & down with excitement!! After that our Disney trip was even more magical!!!! :)
What were the resort rooms like?
The Castle View Room was very spacious! Lots of storage space. The only thing that made me nervous was being up so high and walking out on the balcony was a bit scary! I didn’t let my daughter go out there without one of us!
What were the amenities of the resort like? What was your favorite one? The MONORAIL was the best amenity at the Contemporary! Walking out of our elevator and hopping the monorail was AWESOME!! Honestly I don’t think we will ever stay anywhere else when we are traveling with our little ones! The monorail makes life so much easier!! :)
What was the food court like? The food court was nice. Never waited in line long. We also went to Chef Mickey’s once. Our experience was not the greatest. Waited a long time for the characters to come to our table and the food was a bit cold. Thankfully, we went to Chef Mickey’s the last day of our vacation, so our daughter already saw most of the characters at the Magic Kingdom days before.
How were the resort buses? Only took the resort buses a few times. The were fine and not that crowded which was great!
Would you stay at this resort again? YES!!!! The service was absolutely AMAZING!!! We can’t wait to go back Fall of 2012!!! :)

Why did you choose this resort?
We were upgraded from All Star Sports for free in 2001.
What were the resort rooms like? Were they big enough for your family? Did you find them to be acceptable?
The resort rooms were wonderful, clean and very spaceous. We were a family of 3 in our room and my in-laws had an ajoining room.
What were the amenities of the resort like? What was your favorite one?
I loved the convenience of the monorail! Having the pool and letting the kids swim while watching the fireworks from MK was amazing! As well as watching them from our balcony was our favorite!
What was the food court like? Any favorite foods?
We enjoyed the Mickey’s Chef restaurant, but our favorite (which is pricey if you aren’t on the meal plan) is California Grill. It’s at the top of the contemporary and you are able to watch the fireworks and overlook MK from the restaurant…it’s beautiful! And the food is amazing!
How were the resort buses? What was your walk to the bus stop like? How were the resorts bus stops at the parks? How far was the walk to the gates? How crowded were the buses at any given time?
I don’t recall the buses being bad or the walks either. However, it was July and 10 years ago, so I don’t recall exactly.
Would you stay at this resort again? If not, please provide a reason.
We have stayed at the All Star Music & The Grand Floridian along with the Contemporary…We would stay at the Contemporary hands down! We LOVED it! I want to try all the resorts, however, I don’t think I’ll get my husband to try others any more, as we definitely were spoiled & in love with the Contemporary!

Why did you choose this resort?
My family has been staying at The Contemporary for the past 30 years and we have watched it evolved over the years. We were there last year, and I have to say The Contemporary is the best it has ever been and it has always been a wonderful place to stay. It is in a great location, the rooms are beautiful and if you stay in the Garden wing, the pool and marina are RIGHT outside your door! As a kid, I loved to watch the monorail go through the Contemporary, and I STILL do! Chef Mickey’s is located within the Contemporary, so an early morning character breakfast with the Fab 5 is an easy one! I always think that The Contemporary is overlooked in the Deluxe Resort category because of it’s theme. It really is a hidden gem!
What were the resort rooms like? Were they big enough for your family? Did you find them to be acceptable?
The resort rooms are beautiful! We have stayed in these rooms with up to 5 adults and we have had plenty of room. The bathrooms have ample space for all of the people in your party. The rooms have a modern, but very classic decor with very warm colors to give you an “at home” feel.
What were the amenities of the resort like? What was your favorite one?
I love what this resort has to offer! I love that there is a marina, so that you can take advantage of the water sports if you choose! There is a party time at the pool in the afternoon for little ones to enjoy while they are taking a break from the parks.
What was the food court like? Any favorite foods?
They have always had a great food court. They have a great selection for all appetites. You can’t go wrong with any of the food that Disney has to offer.
How were the resort buses? What was your walk to the bus stop like? How were the resorts bus stops at the parks? How far was the walk to the gates? How crowded were the buses at any given time?
The resort buses have been great from The Contemporary and the walk is a very easy one. Since The Contemporary doesn’t solely rely on bus transportation, I have never had a problem with wait times or buses being overly crowded. I find that is more of a problem at the resorts that are not on the monorail line.
Would you stay at this resort again? If not, please provide a reason.
Absolutely! As a matter of fact, we are about to book a vacation there for next September!

Why did you choose this resort? Since we have 3 small children we thought this resort was best since it is so close to Magic Kingdom. We also liked the conveneince of having the ferry (for our dinner at The Trai’s End restaurant) and the two pools (one gradauting down-better for my 2 year old).
What were the resort rooms like? Were they big enough for your family? Did you find them to be acceptable? We stayed at The Bay lake Towers. The room was great. Ours had a small kitchen, 2 bathrooms and seperate bedroom as well as two pull outs for the kids and a portable crib. The room had plenty of space. The washer and dryer were key. My only complaint was that there was no cleaning service of any kind except if your stay was over 8 days. We got clean towels on day 4. Sort of skimpy for what we paid per night.
■What were the amenities of the resort like? What was your favorite one? The pools were great. As i said befor the garduated pool was perfect for my 2 year old and the slides kept my other two busy. When we arrived we used the spa chnage to change since our room wasn’t ready yet which was perfect.
■What was the food court like? Any favorite foods? Convenient food court. Lots of variety and quick service.
■How were the resort buses? What was your walk to the bus stop like? How were the resorts bus stops at the parks? How far was the walk to the gates? How crowded were the buses at any given time? The buses were right in front of the hotel and ran every 10-20 minutes. They were crowded but that is to be expected. The rides were about 25-30 min b/c of the additional resort stops. Coming home at night it seemed longer :) Great convenience though to all the parks.
■Would you stay at this resort again? If not, please provide a reason.
Yes, I would because it was very accomodating and convenient. I would only not stay here because I want to see some of the other great Disney Resorts.

Why did you choose this resort?
This was the first Disney resort my family ever stayed at, and it had an ideal location.
What were the resort rooms like?
When we stayed there, a contemporary version of retro in terms of styling, but the rooms were very spacious, and we had an amazing view of the Lake. We had 2 adults and 2 teenagers, and we had plenty of room.
What were the amenities like? What was your favorite one?
Lots of amenities at the Contemporary, but our favorite at the time was the arcade.
What was the food court like? Any favorite foods?
I don’t remember making use of the food court because we mostly ate at the parks, but we did eat at both the Contempo Cafe (quick service) and Chef Mickey’s. At the Contempo Cafe, I loved the flatbreads. On a different trip, we ate at the California Grill for a sort of birthday celebration, and it was so nice!
How were the resort buses?
We didn’t use the resort buses on this particular trip. We took the monorail either to MK or to the Transportation and Ticket Center. Love the monorail access! They can get pretty crowded, but they run pretty frequently. Fun fact: the guy who does the voice for the Chicago “L” system based the voice he used (when he auditioned and subsequently was chosen) on the Disney World monorail voice. :)
Would you stay at this resort again?
Absolutely. If we can afford it, I would love to stay here again.

Why did you choose this resort? Easy access to monorail and walking distance to Magic Kingdom. We have stayed there 4 times and will be staying there again in Novemeber. Also, it is very convenient to go back and unwind for the kids’ naps or to switch parks in the middle of the day.
What were the resort rooms like? Were they big enough for your family? Did you find them to be acceptable?
Yes, we had two queen beds and a daybed. Plenty of room for our two little ones and all of our luggage. Even room for a small tent that my daughter likes to sleep in.
What were the amenities of the resort like? What was your favorite one?
Nice gift shops with disney items. Monorail right through hotel. Several eating places. Loved having the monorail so close to our room.
What was the food court like? Any favorite foods?
Food at food court was ok. Good for a quick snack or breakfast. Husband loved egg cups at food court. Chef Mickey is there. Planning to go there in November.
How were the resort buses? What was your walk to the bus stop like? How were the resorts bus stops at the parks? How far was the walk to the gates? How crowded were the buses at any given time?
Bus stop just outside front of hotel. Quick wait and not too crowded. Benches to sit on while you wait.
Would you stay at this resort again? If not, please provide a reason. Definitely, we are staying there on our next trip in November. We have stayed at the Polynesian and the Caribean Beach but didn’t like them as much. We feel it is worth the extra money for the Contemporary for the convenience of the monorail and the walk to Magic Kingdom with two small children who like to nap in the middle of the day. Rooms were clean and quiet. We even saw Mickey and Minnie in the lobby several times for photo ops last time were were there.
Lissie Echeverri says
Why did you choose this resort?
Convenience mainly, it’s nice to be able to walk to MK or jump on the monorail.
What were the resort rooms like?
Very spacious and nice. I found that the higher floors seemed to be better with the noise but other than that it’s my family favorite.
Were they big enough for your family?
Absolutely, I only have one daughter so we were only 3 in the room.
Did you find them to be acceptable?
Disney in general will go out of their way to accommodate you so long as you speak up and tell them. We had stayed at Beach Club one time and the room had an odor. We said something they moved us.
What were the amenities of the resort like?
The pool is great. They have entertainment for the kids. My daughter enjoyed the hula hoop contest. Every kid just about wins something. They have boat rentals, bike rentals, many shops, including a mini mart, restaurants, etc.
What was your favorite one?
Chef Mickey’s by far. Also on the day of check out we still wanted to enjoy the parks so bell hop took our stuff (including the cold stuff we had in our fridge) and kept it in storage for us. We didn’t have to worry about the food spoiling.
What was the food court like?
It was ok. The people were friendly. We used them for the snacks mostly. We use the dinning plan and only used the food court for the snacks & drinks.
Any favorite foods?
Chef Mickey’s was great. They also have a signature restaurant (roof top) it’s very expensive but I’ve had family go there and they said the service, food, and experience was well worth the price.
How were the resort buses?
We only had to wait for one of the water parks. The rest was fairly fast. I believe every 5 -10 min there was a bus arriving. I can’t complain. It was coming back to the resort that I noticed took longer. It seemed that there was more resort buses for the moderate and value resorts then the deluxe resorts.
What was your walk to the bus stop like?
Every park & Downtown Disney was different. Sometime we had to walk to the last bus stop and sometimes we were the first bus stop.
How were the resorts bus stops at the parks?
Late at night, the buses came very frequently. During the day you might have to wait more than the 10 min wait.
How far was the walk to the gates?
At the end of the night they ALL seemed long. But for the most part there was no difference. Obviously the walk was shorter if you stayed inside Disney then if you were coming from the ticket transportation center.
How crowded were the buses at any given time?
At night, kids sat on top of the parents, dad & sometimes moms were standing to make room for more people. We all wanted to get back to the resorts so we didn’t mind the crowdiness. LOL
Would you stay at this resort again? If not, please provide a reason.
Absolutely like I said it was our favorite resort. You could even go out to the terrace sit and watch the fire works. If you could find an owner of DVC they would be nice to take you up to the roof top so that not only you can sit but you can hear the story behind the fireworks. It’s like being in MK but without the crowd.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. We go every year and we stay inside every time. If our budget is tight we stay somewhere else. Hope that has help you.

we stayed at the contemporary twice in recent years – in 2007 and 2009. We chose it the first time because it was within walking distance of the magic kingdom, and with a four year old, we wanted to be flexible about getting to what we assumed would be her favorite park. Plus, I had always wanted to stay there, and since this was a short vacation, what better time to stay at a more expensive hotel! The second time we went, grandma was paying, and again, it was a short stay, so she splurged for us.
As a family of three, the king size room was great for our first stay as it allowed our daughter to sleep with us, which made her more comfortable and able to fall asleep. The bathroom area is generous. The balcony was small but able to hold three of us to have a breakfast outside to start our day, which we like. I loved that we could simply run to the elevator, take a quick ride to the snack bar floor, refill our beverage cup without having to step outside. The food court otherwise was not exceptional, but basic food. We had a dining plan and used it to buy one counter service breakfast each day that we split between us – protein heavy, eggs, sausage, etc. Supplementing it with refillable mugs of coffee or tea plus a couple of granola bars.
The buses were so convenient, the closest to the hotel we’ve ever had onsite (we’ve stayed at Port Orleans, Dixie Landings (way back when), Shades of Green and Caribbean Beach – since then we’ve stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge which was also close by our room but not most of the rest of the resort). We loved the monorail to Grand Floridian to take in 1900 Park Faire Character meal and to the Magic Kingdom. The switch to get to Epcot was a lot of walking our 4 year old didn’t like at all.
If money wasn’t an impediment, I might stay here again although after seeing the theming at AKL, the Contemporary was not as much fun for us or our child. The hotel is very nice but the pools, lobbies and facilities are basic. If they had a late night bar, I didn’t notice it. The noise from the restaurant woke us up most mornings, some when we wished we could have slept in more. The stores are square and angular, it’s all modern, like it’s theme, but it’s perhaps better for us to have done it already when the stroller ride to MK was most important, since it has freed us to try other resorts.
Candy Lane says
So my stay at the contemporary was a few years ago, 7 to be exact. But this is my review based off of what I remember:
1. Why did I choose this resort: In all honesty, I didnt. The Shades of Green (the military resort on the Disney property) was remodeling and placed us at their rates at the Contemporary Hotel. We stayed in the Garden Suites.
2. What were the rooms like? The rooms from what I understood then, were about to get a facelift, but were nice. I liked their location to the pool, docks, and food court. They were not attached to the main hotel by anything more than a walkway, but were still very nice.
3. What were the amenities like and what was my favorite? There were lots of great things about this hotel. The monorail goes straight through so I never had to worry about a walk back to my hotel for the major parks. There is LOTS of shopping, an arcade and dining. My favorite was the shop up stairs that had the confections. Granted for the life of me I don’t remember the shop, but I remember the chocolate covered mickey pretzels. Those tasted better from that shop than anywhere else on the property.
4. What was the food court like? There were a variety of foods that you could get there, from cereals, fruits, juices, sodas, pizza, hotdogs… lots of easy cafeteria food that the masses could enjoy. It is easy to please anyone there. I would grab a fruit in the morning heading out to the park and would alway nab a soda and a candy on the way in at night.
5 How were the resort buses? What was your walk to the bus stop like? How were the resorts bus stops at the parks? How far was the walk to the gates? How crowded were the buses at any given time? The buses from the resort was a simple walk out the front door and down the catwalk a short ways. You could grab a schedule at the front desk so your stay in the heat was not very long. The bus stops were covered and rarely crowded. My favorite part about staying at this particular hotel was that there was no actual need to ride the monorail to the Magic Kingdom. Just walk right across the parking lot and you are there! It was a nice way to walk up your muscles for a good day of fun!
6. Would I stay at this resort again? Most definitely. It had all the extra magic you could ever wish for!

Why did you choose this resort?
I was at this resort for a conference. It was closest to where the conference was being held in the main lobby conference center.
■What were the resort rooms like? Were they big enough for your family? Did you find them to be acceptable?
The rooms were beautiful. They had been updated. They looked very nice. We had a view of the water which was great. We were in the back rooms. I was very quiet. A very nice size. It was very acceptable. The bathroom was nice also. There was plenty of room to move around and it was deocroated so nice. Definately brought in the contempary look and loved it.
■What were the amenities of the resort like? What was your favorite one?
The pool of course was my favorite. Everything was acceptable. The pool was a nice size so that you can relax but there were rooms for the kids. The movies on the “beach” were pretty neat. Although you had to have a package…. when some characters came for kids to meet them at the resort was so nice. Kids could meet characters anywhere.
■What was the food court like? Any favorite foods?
The food area was nice. The bar area did close a bit earlier than expected. The food area stayed open and was really nice. There was not a specific food that I ate that I like. I did travel to the different resorts to see them and loved being able to go into each area to see what they had to offer. They were a sight to see within themselves.
■How were the resort buses? What was your walk to the bus stop like? How were the resorts bus stops at the parks? How far was the walk to the gates? How crowded were the buses at any given time?
The buses were very good. The walk to the bus stop was not that bad at all. It was just right outside the resort. I did not attend the parks except Downtown Disney area. The walks were okay. The buses has a good amount of people but did not allow overcrowding so it was nice.

Yes I would stay at this resort again. The rooms were lovely, the service was great. The pool access is a good location between the buildings so you did not have too far to walk. It was very clean. Everything was great.
Thanks

Why did you choose this resort?
I actually went with my family and my parents planned the trip, they usually like to stay at one of the hotels with the monorail access.
What were the resort rooms like? Were they big enough for your family? Did you find them to be acceptable?
The resort rooms are nice, clean and spacious. We had like a mini suite with two rooms because there were six of us, DVD player, little fridge and kitchen, 2 bathrooms.
What were the amenities of the resort like? What was your favorite one?
Honestly, we live in Florida, about an hour from Disney, so when we do Disney, the parks are where we are all day. They do have two nice pools though, and some volley ball and tennis courts.
What was the food court like? Any favorite foods?
The place where we ate there was Chef Mickey’s, great for kids, we did a character breakfast and enjoyed it alot. A little over priced but it’s Disney. They have a couple other restaurants but we did not eat there.
How were the resort buses? What was your walk to the bus stop like? How were the resorts bus stops at the parks? How far was the walk to the gates? How crowded were the buses at any given time?
The great thing about this resort is the monorail runs right through it! It is kinda crowded by the time it gets to the Contemporary but it’s so close to the Magic Kingdom it doesn’t matter. To get to the other parks since we drive to Disney we do not take the busses.

Probably not simply because of the price, it has gone up so much over the years. We have stayed at almost every resort because we are annual pass holders and go often, and now that I have a child of my own, I know that he doesn’t care where we stay as long as we get to see Mickey. All we really do at the hotel is shower and sleep. The moderate resorts like Coronado have similar accomodations with a lower price, not as convenient to get to the parks but like I said we drive there so it’s no biggie.

Why did you choose this resort?
When traveling with our 2 very young kids, we wanted to be on a monorail resort as well as be able to walk to the MK.

We stayed CL and the rooms were fantastic! They’ve been recently updated with modern decor. Gorgeous! Lots of space for our family of 4, which included a pack n play.

Food court is very good for quick service. We’ve eaten breakfast there in the past. Love California Grill at the top. One of the best restaurants on property. A must!

Unfortunately, the buses have been very slow the past few times we’ve gone. And not just at the Contemporary. They’ve cut back on services, to save money, and us guests are getting the brunt of it. The walk to the gates is acceptable. I don’t think it’s too far. Buses can be crowded, especially, in the evenings.
