I am always on the lookout for money saving tricks! Being on vacation does not change that. I do let loose some on vacation. Who am I kidding it’s a full blow take all my money, who needs money kind of event. It is a vacation after all! The last thing I want to do after scrimping and saving for a year or more, to go on a vacation, is scrimp and save while on vacation. Vacations in my mind are a time for enjoying life’s little pleasures, and indulging. It’s what Butterbear wishes and chocolate frog dreams are made of after all!
While at Universal in March, and July, I was on a mission to find the meals that gave you the most bang for your buck. I had a few requirements. First it must be unique meaning you can only find it at Universal or a few other places nationwide. Second it needs to be delicious!
1). Red Oven Pizza Bakery in City Walk pizzas average around $15.00 each! I have had everything from Grimaldi’s to Uno’s pizzas in my day. Red Oven Pizza Bakery is by far the best pizza, I have had to date. Not only is delicious, it is affordable, kids love it, rarely is there a wait to order, and it’s made with quality ingredients. Each pizza is the size of a typical medium pizza. Each one is hand made they vary in size a little. They average is around 12″ in diameter. It is plenty for 2 people to share. Which is a great value for theme park food. My personal favorite is the Prosciutto & Arugula pizza!
2). Fish and Chips $15.99 from the Leaky Calderon or Three Broomsticks! Both of these restaurants are located in the Wizarding world of Harry Potter. The fish and chips is just typical friend fish with potato wedges. While it sounds boring. It is AMAZING! The potato wedges are hand cut AKA homemade. They are out of this world! The fish is flaky, crispy, and ohh so good. To take it up a notch squeeze some lemon on the fish and dip it in tarter sauce. That my friends is what dreams are made of! Each plate gets a generous serving of chips (potato wedges), alongside 3 to 4 pieces of fish.
3). The Perilous Pair Platter $15.99 from Classic Monster’s Cafe! This quick service location recently underwent a menu change. Now it offers BBQ type foods, but you can still get pizza. Being from Texas where BBQ is one of the main food groups. I wasn’t sure, I was going to enjoy it. I was wrong! It was flavorful, the meats where tender, serving sizes where huge, and the sides where exactly what you would except from a BBQ joint. The BBQ sauce didn’t taste like typical quick service Kraft out of a jar.
The Perilous Pair Platter comes with your choose of 2 meats and 2 sides. We ordered 2 platters, both came with cornbread at no additional cost. The menu on Universal’s website doesn’t say anything about it coming with cornbread. I am not sure if it was suppose to come with cornbread or not. My gut tells me cornbread was included. But don’t hold me to it! My only complaint is that there was a nasty stripe of fat in the middle of the brisket. Brisket is a fatty cut of meat. When you BBQ it all the fat should melt into the meat. The slice was huge! Even with avoiding the middle fatty strip we left full.
